The former YouTube star’s debut EP establishes a decent R&B mood but proceeds to wallow in thin, underdeveloped emotions.

Joji's debut EP 'In Tongues' is a brilliant showcase of the artist's early talents shown with lo-fi melancholy.

This EP gets a lot of unnecessary flack for it's uninspiring lyrics, and lifeless vocals, and honestly I do have to agree at some points, example being "Bitter Fuck", but that absolutely never stopped me from loving this project. So that begs the question, why do I love this EP so much?

The production on this project is still some of Joji's best material to date. The ... read more
This EP is a punchline to me. I think this is actually worse than Pink Season... an album so bad that it only has value in watching other people take it seriously.

This is supposed to be taken seriously. It’s horribly written, painfully uninteresting, and Joji’s singing is unbearable.

Production is sweet and gentle at times. It’s intolerable at other times.

Worst song by far is Bitter Fuck, it is my #1 least favorite song of 2017

In the summer before tenth grade, things were a lot different for me than they are now. There were a lot of things and people that weren't in my life yet that would end up helping me a lot, and by "things" I mean meds for my depression, which unfortunately was peaking at the time. I hadn't been diagnosed yet, even though I was seeing a psychiatrist every few months, but I knew something was wrong. I knew it wasn't normal to feel so unmotivated and miserable all the time, but I was ... read more
"In Tongues" is the debut EP of singer Joji, which I am not so attracted to by his voice, at least for me, I feel that his vocal performance is a bit weak, and it does not attract my attention much so that I want to listen its music. But anyway...

In six songs Joji tells us through "In Tongues" his emotional state after having emotionally separated from his relationship, reflected melancholy, sadness, fear, anger, despair through the songs of the EP.

Talking about this

In Tongues is somehow worse than the unofficial tape Chloe Burbank. While Joji is a brilliant producer as always, the lyricism is horrible on here. The only thing redeeming is the beats, and they are really good. He also has some amazing vocal performances.

It sounds nothing like a label debut and more like a collection of B-Sides. However, the highlights are really good, like Will He, Demons, and Worldstar Money.
