Added together, Presence winds up as something less than the sum of its parts but its imbalance also means that it's a record worth revisiting; it seems different upon each revisit and is always compelling.
When I was in high school many years ago, I was composing my first song to be played with a band. My music teacher's advice was to ensure that every songwriting technique properly served the song, and to refrain from getting self-indulgent. yeah it's not as interesting as any of their previous albums, but it's still pretty cool and nice. achilles last stand is one of their best cuts - extremely energetic prog rock banger.
Presence is one of the few albums in Zeppelin's discography that a lot of people forget about or just skip entirely. I can sorta see why. There are only seven tracks, none are particularly great, the production is lackluster compared to previous releases (as is the songwriting and instrumentation), but there are some good highlights here regardless of its flaws. Achilles Last Stand is incredible, easily one of their best tracks. The rest of the album is good, not as good as the other Zeppelin projects I have listened to but still enjoyable.
