Miguel approaches War & Leisure with aplenty funk, psychedelic, and R&B goodness, and even if it isn’t as daring as his previous efforts, it’s still rooted with his knack for majestic melodies and party jams.

Am a big fan of Miguel's past few projects. He can do better than this.

EHHHHHH.... Probably one of the most lackluster alternative rnb albums i heard all year. Which is sad, cause i really enjoy Miguel earlier output besides his last album being a blunder. However, with his newest record "War and Leisure" this feels as if there is lack of groove and drive with most of the track list.

Miguel was a traditional r&b auteur with Kaleidoscope Dream and on Wildheart, his last album, he found a sweet spot between r&b and classic rock so decadent he gave Prince a run for his money. Although War & Leisure doesn't feature the highs of either of these records, it's still a step forward in many ways. Aiming for straight up pop-funk this time around, Miguel crafts one of the best politically-charged albums of the year, full of sexual metaphors that befit the album's title.

While I understand that this isn't exactly a stellar album, I can't quite understand why this went totally under the radar despite the mostly universal acclaim of Wildheart. This thing is much better produced and has more star tracks, in my opinion.

Top Tracks: Banana Clip, Harem, Pineapple Skies, Sky Walker, Told You So

Another consistent album by Miguel. “War and Leisure” is filled with energy and purpose. Theres a great balance of fun and politics. As he did on his previous album, “Wildheart”, He continues to produce dreamy, atmospheric tracks. It might not be emphasized to the extent of his 2015 release, but it undoubtably remains at the core. As stated, the album shines because of its consistent effort throughout each track. There aren’t many songs that I find absolutely ... read more

How does Miguel do it? How does he consistently top himself album after album? The R&B crooner’s latest album, War & Leisure, is his most intriguing and most excellent effort yet. Pulling influences from funk and soul, this album is a mixture of James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Miguel. The music has a consistent groove with mellow tempos and a nice spotlight on the electric guitar, but that’s really all it has in terms of worth, with a lack of real harmonic color and oddly paced, unsurprising, boring melodies that don’t break free from sounding like a marketable ploy to bring in fans of all ages. My Score: 116/180 (Good) = 64/100

A real surprise, because before this I'd written Miguel off as a C-list R&B artist because of his label's terrible marketing. War & Leisure is a flurry of psychedelic guitar and smooth R&B, with a surprisingly varied tracklist. Miguel slides seamlessly from the lightness of 'Pineapple Skies' to the emotional intensity of 'City of Angels' seemingly effortlessly.

While the album generally sounds fresh and somewhat enjoyable, as a fan of Miguel's previous works like All I Want is You (2010) and Wildheart (2015), I know for a fact that Miguel can do a lot better than this.

The worst LP Miguel has released to date, unfortunate but understandable, he had been leaning to a more pop infused album and this is the result. It's not to say that there aren't some decent moments on the album just that the artistry we've come to know from Miguel when putting out an LP has all but vanished here. It plays more like a lot of ft.'s we've seen Miguel in, pleasant but utterly uneventful and devoid of any meaning

More pop-influenced than the last album, which isn't where I wanted to go with Miguel, but hey, still a pretty solid album. Miguel could sing anything and it'd be decent. Light Michael Jackson vibes
