If the vocals were mixed louder, the album definitely would've been great. They were monsters waiting to be unleashed. The rest of the instrumentation is stunning too. Awesome symphonic stuff.
Bands like this are why I'm not upset that Opeth mellowed out.
There's really something to be said about pieces who can write beautiful, orchestral pieces which could score masterpiece films and write it into kickass metal. I mean, A Solitary Demise almost made me cry, and Into the Earth is pummeling and badass. Not to imply that the heaviness and mellowness are opposite in their somberness, far from it. A lovely listen, but, again, could’ve been more effective if the album as a whole was trimmed a little bit.
