While there are a small handful of decent songs and riffs on Catharsis, the vast majority is either hilariously edgy nostalgia or simply forgettable.

Catharsis’ 15 tracks prove that, nearly three decades into their career, Robb Flynn and co.’s inflammatory zeal remains intact. Their creative judgement? Not so much.

Machine Head is one of my favorite bands of all time, their music means so much to me and their frontman Robb Flynn is my favorite vocalist of all time and my dream is to see them live one day. With that being said, this album is seriously testing my loyalty as a massive fan.
Volatile is a decent song and good opener with the classic Machine Head style of riffs and vocals and same goes for the two songs after that. But the song right after called California Bleeding is easily their worst song ... read more
I don’t know why I decided to listen to this. Morbid curiosity I guess.
I don’t even like the band, so I knew I wouldn’t like it, but damn… It’s a very painful listen. The vocals and the lyrics are abysmal. Using so many slurs in an “empowering” song like 'Bastards' is truly hilarious. How in hell are we supposed to take this seriously?

The songs aren't as bad as people say they are, but nowhere as good the songs on their previous albums. The lyrics are kind of cringe and very corny, and the vocalist is trying really hard to sound cool at times.
The main issue with this album is how bloated it is, being 74 minutes with 15 songs, which is way too long. Albums with a long duration aren't bad, but if they are not designed to have a long duration then they will most likely be bad and almost feel like a chore to listen ... read more
