The variety of genres here impresses the most; as Bruno gets even more adept in the studio, he’s learning that a minimalist, acoustic-led song like “Seven Sticks Of Dynamite” can be more effective than a cut boasting 64 tracks.
'Here Come the Runts' is a well-produced alternative rock album that should definitely get a spot on your playlist.
Here Come the Runts doesn't shine or resonate like Awolnation's previous material, though it is quite clear that Aaron Bruno's songwriting abilities are understated.
This album is really uninteresting to me. And I don’t think that the constant repetition of songs titles with basic and repetitive melodies consistently throughout the album particularly helps. Seriously the lyrics are so weak and poor and uninspired. Here come the runts and stop that train are the only two songs where I could sense something slightly interesting was happening but even they aren’t that spectacular.
When I first saw the album cover, I thought these were gonna be a bunch of country covers and I was like oh fuck
AWOLNATION come back with an under the radar 3rd album, and it might just be their best yet! Definitely some of Aaron Bruno's finest work!

Blow my mind, blow my mind. Pa-pa-pa passion, pa-pa-pa passion. We need a miracle, miracle, miracle man. I'm just a jealous buffoon. I'm just a jealous buffoon. Lipstick like dynamite, seven sticks of dynamite. My, my molasses, my, my molasses. Shoot like a cannonball, shoot like a cannonball (artful, totally not trite metaphor, btw). Tall, tall tale, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah. Finally coming up for some air, finally coming up for air. Genius writing here.
Lyrically, this is drivel. ... read more
