Pitchfork
Charli XCX’s latest mixtape is a vision of what pop music could be, the sound of an eclectic, hyperreal future where romantic love is fun but fucked and partying is an emotional refuge.
83
Consequence of Sound
By inflating pop music to its cartoonish extremes, Charli and her cohorts find something most artists don’t dare to look for: They find space between the boring and the uncomfortable, the pristine and the filthy, the sterile corporate origins of much radio pop, and the vibrant human spaces in which it’s consumed.

NME
Charli’s second mixtape of the year isn’t just about proving she’s more than your average pop star, but about her settling into her role as innovator, celebrator, and curator supreme.

Crack Magazine

Led by Charli XCX on Pop 2, we catch a glimpse of electropop reaching adulthood.

Tiny Mix Tapes

For better or for worse, Charli XCX is embracing maturity on her fourth mixtape ... And though she may not find what she’s looking for anytime soon, Charli XCX, on Pop 2, is at least looking down a new path.

The Guardian

With adventurous ideas, noisy thrills and eclectic guests, Charli XCX shows that cheesy pop can be truly creative.

The 405

POP 2 is perplexing throughout. Cuts to silence and haphazard switching of rhythm make it constantly disorientating. With the exception of the chart beckoning 'Out of My head' with Tove Lo, every track here has the structure of subverted pop destined for the decades beyond.

Exclaim!
This mixtape has no higher purpose than to let its creators run wild, showcasing their prodigious talents with frequent moments of pop brilliance.

The Needle Drop

Pop 2 is another welcome collaboration between Charli XCX and the PC Music camp.

Charli XCX might be one of the best and most creative pop artists of our generation.

She started off with kind of basic pop music with her first two albums, True Romance in 2013 & SUCKER in 2014.

She was featured on the Fault In Our Stars soundtrack with her smash hit Boom Clap. To boost her popularity, she sang the chorus to one of the best selling songs of all time, Fancy by Iggy Azalea in 2014. It was certified 7 times platinum by the RIAA.

She took a break from music, being featured ... read more

[Genre: Bubblegum Bass]

Pop 2 is an absolutely fantastic, unbelievably catchy, and fun pop album that combines heaps of electronic elements into typical pop formulas and expands upon that idea tenfold. It sounds like it's from years into the future. You could either get fun, catchy and futuristic bangers such as I Got It and Femmebot, with absolutely amazing features. Especially on I Got It. CupcakKe's feature is genuinely incredibly good, Charli's hook is beyond catchy, and Pabllo Vittar ... read more

From 2010 to 2015, Charli XCX is an ultra-commercial pop artist linking the songs to gain a maximum of money. From this, will be born a pop legend, a true: Charli XCX. SOPHIE and A.G COOK, the bosses of the label PC MUSIC wanting to create a new musical genre called bubblegum bass, have managed to penetrate the high spheres of pop. SOPHIE has managed to produce singles, especially for Madonna. A.G COOK is watching the progress of Charli XCX. In 2016, after years of radiofriendly singles and ... read more

Wait “Track 10” is literally just “Blame it on your love” before it got the crazy catchy beat and the Lizzo feature. Idk what to make of that, but it does work well as a sad ending to this mixtape. Strange

So after loving Charli I decided to listen to Pop 2 again, one of the most iconic album covers of the 2010s. I really can’t say much more besides it sounds like the stepping stone to what Charli became. ESPECIALLY with the closer here, and the posse cut with ... read more
