This was actually super fun and enjoyable. While it doesn't feel as lively due to the overdubbed recording process, the writing is actually super good on this record and shows a lot of versatility.

Sure, this doesn't have the same pristine qualities of The Mars Volta, but the debut At the Drive-In album is punchy, infectious, and charming for what it is.

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. The production could be better, but fundamentally I like the composition.

ATDI's debut is far from the legendary standards they would set later down the line, but for what it is, the album remains solid.

Sure, Cedric and Jim sound very young as they scream into the mic, the lyrics are not their signature gourmet word salad, and parts of the album seemed kneecapped by it's lo-fi production.

But it's pretty good, and would show promise for what's to come.
