After a string of really fucking bad albums, David proves that life doesn't really begin at fifty but it's a good time to make it real again.

On Earthling, Bowie lets the songs tell the story ... the tracks on Earthling are linked only by the power of the turbocharged guitars, the energy and intensity of the skittering drum-and-bass rhythms, the spiritual-technological tug of war in the lyrics and Bowie's signature baritone croon.

In spite of the ridiculousness, the pretension and the overwhelming essence du naff that prevails over it, 'Earthling' is actually - though it galls to admit it - not a bad record. Perhaps it's Bowie's stunningly resilient inability to see his own preposterousness that makes it all so entertainingly funny.

Now this score might look completely out of left field considering the score I've been giving Bowie's past few albums... but I can wholeheartedly say that this is Bowie's most underrated work yet.

Earthling is Bowie's most experimental work in quite a while, and dare I say one of his most experimental albums to date. Earthlings is David Bowie's most experimentative release in years. It's also one of his loudest albums to date. And if you know anything about me, it's that I love loud and experimental music!

I ended up loving most of this record. Right from the opener, Little Wonder, I knew that this would be my favourite Bowie album in years. It just gripped me, and with songs like Looking For Satellites, Battle For Britain, Seven Years In Tibet, and pretty much the rest of the track list really helped ... read more

Bowie continues down the industrial direction with some drum 'n bass influences on "Earthling". The production is great, albeit a tad dated by today's standards, and there are some great songs on here. It's not one of his best albums, but it still has some quirky writing and instrumentals galore.

Fav Tracks: Seven Years In Tibet, I'm Afraid Of Americans, Looking For Satellites, Dead Man Walking, Law (Earthlings On Fire)
