The Line of Best Fit

Although they don’t break the mould on every track, it’s important to remember that it’s a mould that they set, and Firepower fulfills as some of this year’s most prospering and ferocious heavy metal.

AllMusic

Closing in on their 50th anniversary, Judas Priest still possess the musical rigor, showmanship, and force that make other bands bow down. FIREPOWER smokes.

The Guardian

Firepower could never sound as revolutionary as Priest did when they were codifying metal 40 years ago, but it’s often excellent.

The Needle Drop

At nearly 50 years old as a band, Judas Priest has just released not only a late career highlight, but one of the greatest heavy metal albums of the decade.

Though it is far too early to start talking about this as one of their finest records, I have no doubt that 'Firepower' could slip through a wormhole in time to stand in the mighty presence of 'British Steel' and 'Screaming For Vengeance' and feel no shame.

PopMatters

Firepower demonstrates that Priest has a place in current metal and that they are not just riding their past glories.

Exclaim!

Firepower is exactly what you would expect of Priest almost 50 years into their career. It's well-produced, expertly executed and understandably quotidian.

Jam packed with timeless riffs and very memorable hooks, hearing this album will make you believe you missed a classic metal album in the early 2000s. You may feel that the album sounds dated, but that's only because we haven't had very many metal releases this solid for a very long time. Fans of bands like Disturbed will enjoy ... read more

Judas Priest is back to their old ways on their latest record, Firepower. The project is full of life and very reminiscent of some of group’s earliest works. It’s amazing to see a band like them able to put together such a quality album so late in their career.

Nearly 50 years now and the group releases one of their best albums in my opinion. This album matches the energy that made albums like 'Screaming for Vengeance' and 'Defenders of the Faith' so good, but that could be part of this albums downfall in some aspects. This feels like nothing new from the group, but what was offered feels great. Fast-paced, hard-hitting, with epic lyrics and performances from everyone. There is a bit of diversity here as well, but some tracks could feel very samey, ... read more
