This album art is absolutely horrendous. What isn't horrendous, however, is "The Hybrid" itself. It's a pretty solid debut effort from the soon-to-be-great Danny Brown. The production and delivery isn't nearly as refined as his future endeavors and his lyricism can come off as juvenile at times, but what he pulls off here is pretty damn good.

Being one of the worst covers I’ve seriously ever seen, I went into ‘The Hybrid’ with low expectations, as it’s his first record on a label. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the production is and how refined his rapping is. Pretty solid major label debut.

Color: Blue
FAV TRACKS: Exotic, Nowhere 2 Go, Greatest Rapper Alive, New Era, Shootin’ Moves
LEAST FAV: The Nana Song
Ignore the awful cover art, what Danny Brown gives here is a pretty fun, interesting and fun hip-hop record, but with the added bonus that it's headed by one of the more interesting voices in hip-hop. The production was a little inconsistent, but there were some undeniable highlights like Exotic, Nowhere 2 Go & Drinks On Me (which was definitely my fav track on the project, love how personal he gets on this one). His grimy bars about life on detroit are very appealing to me aswell, however I do think his flows are pretty weak throughout this ... read more
This project is very slept on by many Danny Brown fans. Definitely a great start to a polarising but very interesting and adventurous artist! This is very aggressive and is here where we start to see Brown familiarizing himself with the rap game. Some beats and Danny Brown's delivery is not as furnished as later records, but was a sign of what's to come.
