American Dollar Bill is the record to the end of the world, maybe even to the world as it is right now. If it makes you afraid, then that's very okay. They probably want it that way.

AllMusic
As sprawling and combustible as this entire album seems, all of the musicians maintain a deadly, razor-sharp focus, and the whole thing is powerful and full of purpose and conviction. Completely unbelievable.

Pitchfork

Sumac’s other works have had definite ends and beginnings; American Dollar Bill’s all-enveloping calamity can drift in and out if you’re not listening intently. You don’t go to Haino—or Sumac, for that matter—for easy listening, anyhow.

70
PopMatters

Surely as it must have been for its creators, American Dollar Bill… can be taxing, but it gives as much as it takes.

The 405
Less an album than an uninhibited exploration of the primal power of metal.

No Ripcord
Sure, it’s discordant overall, but there’s something genuine for your ears to distill. At the very least, you can’t go wrong with an album this heavy.

The Needle Drop
Aaron Turner's Sumac joins forces with legendary noise rock experimentalist Keiji Haino for an hour's worth of mind-melting post-metal jams.
