The 13 tracks that make up the German band's 11th LP find them recording, writing and collaborating with a wide swath of artists ... to craft a dizzying array of sounds and vocals that probably would have come off as a sonic mess if not for Mouse on Mars' crystalline vision.

The album often takes on the attributes of a free-flowing jam session, and the idea is that the many guests contributed to it in whatever way they wanted.

DIMENSIONAL PEOPLE deserves praise alone for its clever use of guest collaborators, of which there is many. Justin Vernon, for instance, tends to stick out like a sore thumb. Not here -- he fits seamlessly between the cracks, eliciting an occasional, "Hey, is that Bon Iver?" throughout his three features. Mouse on Mars are known for tackling an array of styles from electro-pop to post-rock. And On DP, they seem to cover the gamut though it is never brash or out of place. This one ... read more
