She remains the reliable, relatable artist she’s been from the start, and I think this album will be a traveling companion to many people. Or just something you put on, and look out the window, and feel the time pass.

Make no mistake, this is a good record, the passion and fire are still there, and I think all the band’s hard work will continue to pay off for them, but as far as putting an album on I just can’t see myself reaching for this one ahead of some of their older work.

The outfit’s second LP finds the band exploring a tumultuous moment in their lives, via the power of jerky, gnarled post-punk and stream of consciousness lyrics.

The album tackles all aspects of the highs and lows of being in and out of love and it comes off as quite the huge statement from this amazing up and coming artist.

Her regard for the past and how it’s shaped her and will continue to do so makes Dacus a rightfully prominent figure in the indie folk scene.

Compelling, imminent, and overwhelmingly ineffable, Ignorance goes beyond excellent and enters the rarified realm of the superlative.

There’s a spectacular spontaneity to the studio piece—electric in every sense of the word.

Jubilee is a masterclass in songwriting and production. Each aspect embraces the other and compliments it perfectly. Triumphantly rejoicing in the biggest and most mundane of emotions, Japanese Breakfast has crafted a record that fulfills and abandons just moments apart from each other.

Sling teems with precise moments you’ve never been able to describe, but you’re just elated that someone can ground these feelings that have always seemed esoteric and abstract.

The musicianship of the band has progressed to such an impressive point you get the feeling they could play anything and make it Iceage.

The naked ear will identify ‘ULTRAPOP’ as a colossal, mangled mess but beneath the walls of guitar, piston-like drumming and contorted electronics, there are songs and hooks but not as you’d expect.

Across ten tracks Dry Cleaning’s debut offers an almost bottomless pit of wordy treasures to salvage and like any challenges you’re encouraged to burrow deeper to gain a great understanding.

The album, recorded live over six days with My Bloody Valentine producer Andy Savours, captures the band in their present moment, tuned up after a year of extensive touring.

A combination of elegance, subtlety and sophistication; where jazz, electronics and strings coalesce in a perfect union.

Perhaps most amazing about HEY WHAT is how it uses musical elements that are purported to be inaccessible and uses them to convey common sentiments and give them a resonance that would be diluted by a more “traditional approach.”

If ‘Time & Space’ had Turnstile dip their toe into an ocean of varied influences, then ‘GLOW ON’ is a headfirst leap.
