One of best offerings of the year, but may only appeal to fans of that genre.

At 32 minutes long, The Fame Monster might be too slim to be considered a full release, but Gaga sends some loud messages nonetheless. With this release she continues to impress herself upon the public conscious, and should have her sights set firmly on becoming a modern pop icon.

Florence & The Machine’s Lungs is honest music making, real music made through creative innovation for the new age.

Listening to Manners is a bit like watching a child’s first steps – the band holds itself up, smiling the whole time, but Passion Pit still has some learning to do before they can really run. Still, these are confident first strides, and I’m excited to see where they’re headed.

Give it a few spins. Take Dragonslayer for a drive, play it at a party. I think you’ll be surprised.

Through all of their drunken ranting, clamoring for girls, and rocking like they’ve got a whole party behind them even though they are only two, at the heart of Japandroids lies two boys, scared to grow up, and not forgetting this fact no matter how wrapped up in girls and partying they might tell us they are.

Overall, the album is consistently great throughout. Most every track contributes a varied sound to the album, with only a few sleepers.

This is not something you want to listen to at a party, or on the radio. But it is an album that begs to be understood, excruciating though that understanding may be. Amazingly enough, Silberman’s exile, isolation, and loneliness have given birth to a testament to human connection.

They aren’t creating art that happens to be music, they’re making music that happens to be art. It’s that inversion that carries Bitte Orca to a new level.

It’s a solid album that Phoenix should be proud of. It has mass listenability, and will be a popular record in 2009.

Veckatimest isn’t a good album. It’s a beautiful album. Unhurried and effortlessly, Grizzly Bear finds a balance in which detachment and patience mix to sound worldly and wise.

The strength of this album is certainly in the subtle details; details that sometimes take minutes to reach. This is not an album that you can pick up, listen to the opening hook, and know if you'll like.
