I think admin should add Uproxx Music Critics Poll, this one is different from their usual year-end list. For the record, this is their third year doing such poll involving 200+ music critics from various publications (Rolling Stone, AllMusic, Pitchfork, NME etc.). It's similar to Pazz & Jop which no longer existed, it's too big to be ignored.

2020 - https://uproxx.com/critic-polls/the-2020-uproxx-music-critics-poll/

Previous years :

2019 - https://uproxx.com/critic-polls/best-albums-of-the-year-2019-music-critics-poll/

@Rob You haven't add The Digital Fix.

You actually included their list in 2017 aggregate but named it as The Music Fix.

Earbuddy's 2016, 2017, 2018 lists were included, they didn't create a best of 2019 list. Best albums of 2020 is here.

you only update english music websites right? I don't think it's fair to exclude websites like Jenesaispop just bc it's not from usa or uk tbh... that makes this list less beliavable
2mo
Speaking of Earbuddy situation, I suggest admin needs to make this clear and strict rule so there's no more debates/arguments in the future :

- Critics/staff/writers/editors consensus should be the one counted for the aggregate
- If there's no such consensus then, individual lists are allowed as long as they are not more than 3 (Variety and The New York Times as max indicator)

In my opinion, the Earbuddy exclusion for this year is controversial and questionable considering the admin did count Variety and The New York Times (3 individual lists) meanwhile The New Yorker and Sound Opinions (2 individual lists). The bias and personal preference are there no offense.
2mo
These publications were included last year and have released their lists for some time now. hope you consider.

Idolator’s list should be included
2mo
Idolator’s reviews are almost always counted on AOTY and Metacritic. Makes no sense to leave them out.
2mo
The Music, GMA, Idolator & Earbuddy are all out x they were all added in the past years
2mo
The criteria for how to determine whether a source is eligible should be revealed when we search the internet for new lists to make AOTY more reliable.
2mo
two lists that were counted on previously years werent considered in this year list. please consider earbuddy list https://www.earbuddy.net/76421/earbuddy-best-albums-of-2020.html/albums-of-the-year and the music list https://themusic.com.au/news/music-writers-poll-2020-album-year-miiesha-nyaaringu-jessica-dale/TGFUXkFAQ0I/24-12-20/

also why is rob sheffield's list still not included? it counts for Metacritic's aggregate.. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/rob-sheffield-top-20-albums-of-2020-1103796/

Indiehoy (one of Argentina’s and South America’s most important music related news website) released their top 50 albums of the year. The top ten is being added this Friday (tomorrow). It would be cool if it considered them for the year end aggregate so we can have more diversity of voices.

So good to see Bartees Strange climb up the list!
2mo
im kind of disappointed that manic by halsey isnt on here. it was by far her best album and explored so many new genres.
2mo
Hi, sorry, but Fiona's still listed as a second place in the Variety list by Chris Willman, when she's actually tied in number 1 with Taylor Swift's records.
2mo
If phoebe ends up ranking at first place I would not be mad, both FTBC and The Punisher were such beautiful, honest and carefully crafted works

2mo
don't forget, posting lists on here doesn't do you anything... you suggest lists here: https://www.albumoftheyear.org/list/add-list.php

It would be nice if we could use this space to actually comment on the albums on the sites aggregate, rather than complaining about which lists we feel should have been included. Kind of frustrating that so many of the comments are from new users who have scored just a couple albums (or none even) but have added nothing else to the site. Be an active remember of the community. Try listening to some recommended albums that you've never heard before. Life is pretty boring if your just looking for nothing else but to reinforcement of your taste.
2mo
They have digital and printed version, should be included.

@Rob Why the AOTY doesn't count Rob Sheffield list as a separate list of RS as you do with every website? It is an important list from the site and it counts for Metacritic's aggregate
2mo
Chris Willman (Variety) ranked FTBC, Folklore & Evermore as No.1. Yes, 3 albums at No.1. But here FTBC added as No.2. Plz correct it.
2mo
Since 3 New York Times lists were included, here’s the Variety’s top albums of 2020. If certain album appears twice or more, you can either include both or select the higher position to be included.

Everyone needs to calm down. If The LA Times is not seen as worthy to be included, it can be excluded. We are not running this website and aren't making the decisions.
That being said, The LA Times (with the same author) was included last year, so if it was seen as worthy/reputable enough the last time, I don't see any rational reason why it would not be included this time too.

It most likely just takes time to add all these lists, and there have been quite a few new ones today.
2mo
why thisisinsider review don't count? and where is the LA Times review?
2mo
why LA times wasnt added this year if it was last year?

Why LA Times wasn't added yet?

@Rob Hey, man, what's up? Could you please check out Insider's list and consider it for AOTY? Thanks
https://www.insider.com/best-albums-released-this-year-2020-4
2mo
Dear whoever made the PopMatters top 3,
I love you.
2mo
The past couple of years AOTY has included ~ 130 lists, we're basically a 1/3 of the way there and RTJ4 hasn't had a single #1 placement! It's not my personal fav for 2020, but i'm still baffled...
2mo
do they count billboard?
2mo
The absence of Gorillaz on this list is very surprising, especially from British sites.
2mo
Thank god Lil Baby is off the list.
2mo
Clipping, Gorillaz, Strokes. Nowhere to be seen
2mo
This is the worst year ever
2mo
I know it's too early but how underrated is Jessie ware's WTP? I have no words
2mo
I think it’s strange that metacritic used the cleveland list and you guys are ignoring it
2mo
All these critics having "Black Is" higher than "Rise" confuse me
2mo
MTC has added Cleveland‘s list. You guys should do the same
2mo
It’s amazing that new people keep signing up and recommending we add various lists to the site... it’s almost like one person is creating multiple accounts or something 🤔
3mo
could u guys add the cleveland list, I already suggested on the link
3mo
where is clipping.? :(
3mo
exclaim! is out now
3mo
who the fuck is Jon Caramanica and why is Southside his #1 😭
3mo
fuck you pitchfork
3mo
There are 3 lists here (Jon Pareles, Jon Caramanica, Lindsay Zoladz): https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/02/arts/music/best-albums.html
3mo
HMLTD is the most underrated album of the year
3mo
in regards to people mentioning/complaining about the early lists. This is pretty typically stuff... first off, usually dec isn't jammed packed with big time releases for this reason... Also keep in mind that more often than not pro critics get albums in advance of the release date (this is typically how "leaks" happen). Its not like AOTY, where every Friday people get all these new albums and "review" them after initial listens. Presumably, a pro critic will get ample time with an album before the release date/the review drops. I think some publications are dropping lists a little early each year, but don't expect this to change.
3mo
fiona secured the bag but i don't get the rush.... isn't december still 2020......?
3mo
So surprised Sufjan's The Ascension isn't rated higher or even mentioned on most of these. Baffling to me.
3mo
Critics have no patience
3mo
Is that time of the year again! Glad to see the 2020's list up and running
3mo
critics putting out year end lists before rico nasty, ichiko aoba, and the avalanches 🤡
3mo
I think the Joji record should be here but that's just me
3mo
you're telling me Black Dresses isn't on here? HMLTD?
3mo
Yaaaay ungodly hour and circles are here! Just a lil confused on my turn
3mo
How is my turn on here when it was one of the least popular albums by users and critics
3mo
Something more on topic with this page: I'm really happy to see Chloe & Halle's "Ungodly Hour" in the top 20. That one is truly such a beautiful album from beginning to end. I hope it can stay in the top 20/30 when all is said and done, it would really deserve it.

Also not surprised to see Fiona's at the top, "Fetch" was a fantastic record (even if I personally preferred her previous album), but this was expected after the raves it got earlier this year:
3mo
I know that we're only 21 lists in and 2019 had 128 by the end, but i'm surprised RTJ4 hasn't had a 1st place yet. It kind of looks like Fiona Apple is gonna sweep, a bit like Kendrick did in 2015
3mo
I don't know if this will be considered controversial since a few people want it represented, but the Daily Mail UK is not considered a particularly reputable paper. Even Wikipedia doesn't use them as a source anymore: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/feb/08/wikipedia-bans-daily-mail-as-unreliable-source-for-website
3mo
Fiona is winning as she should!!!!!

3mo
@Rob Why the OOR wasn't included yet? It has been out for a while now...
3mo
OOR and daily mail uk should be included.
3mo
Top 15 should be added as 4 points
3mo
The BBC list only listed 10 albums.
Does it not count as a top 10 placement for all listed albums, because it's an unranked list?

Also here is another (unranked) top 20 list by WHAT HI-FI that should be considered:
https://www.whathifi.com/features/20-of-the-best-albums-of-2020
3mo
I'm gonna throw hands with any publication that doesnt include Jessie Ware in it's top 10
3mo
You put the wrong Adrienne Lenker album here. I think you meant to put "songs" not "instrumentals"
3mo
GO ROB ❤️ you’re the best for getting little naggy members taken care of!
3mo
I'm sorry if I've missed something, but why Dylan's album has 31 points and its score points out only 27? By the way, this is happening with other albums also.
3mo
Finally @Rob has fixed the point score for unranked list. Thanks a lot
3mo
BBC culture needs to be updated to 5 points rather than 1. The list contains 9 albums.
3mo
I think admin should fix the current point system for unranked list. Points should be credited based on list size i.e. each album get 5 points if the list consists 10 or lower albums. 3 points if the list having 25 or lower albums. 1 point if the list bigger than 25 albums. Like other members pointed out, the current aggregate is less accurate due to this bias.
3mo
Is it possible to give every one of bbc culture’s entries a top ten vote instead of other? Since they only rated 9 albums it would improve the aggregate’s accuracy a bit.
3mo
Are you going to include the Recordstore list in the aggregate?
3mo
What's wrong with these guys at Decibel? They completely ignored the best album of the year by Phoebe? Even though it should definitely qualify for "Doom Metal", being entitled "Punisher"!
3mo
Final prediction :

01. Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
02. Taylor Swift - folklore
03. Bob Dylan - Rough and Rowdy Ways
04. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
