@Rob, do you have any sense of how 2021 stacks up against past years as far there being any more or less of a consensus vs diversity in critic picks? Just skimming the various lists, it feels a bit more diverse this year? Maybe not. Curious what you see....
11mo
don't forget to add the new rolling stones list (it's a different one from the one that has been added): https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/rob-sheffield-best-albums-of-2021-1268527/adele-30-2-1268536/

now that 110 lists have already been taken into account, the year end list is unlikely to have any major change
(given the fact that 129 lists were taken into caaount in 2020)

wheres polo perks tho

JUBILEE TOP 3 YAAAAAAS
11mo
JUBILEE
11mo
Not sure it's unpopular opinion or not but 2021 musically pale in comparison to 2020
11mo
The coupdemain songs list is wrong.
The last 41-50 songs are listed instead of the top 10.
If you have any worries about the "descending order", the article itself actually lists out the top 5 songs in order so I don't get why this happened.

https://www.coupdemainmagazine.com/best-songs-2021/18130
11mo
Why have The Needle Drop's Top 15 EPs been included when you're presumably going to also include his album list?!
11mo
jubilee is so close to top 3 pls critics do something and give her another #1
11mo
Coup De Main’s best songs list is ranked in playlist order and all too well is named #1 song, confirmed by their official Twitter account

2021 was too weak

How about this best of list from the music magazine Goldflakepaint. https://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/21-for-21-gfps-albums-of-the-year/

https://uproxx.com/critic-polls/uproxx-music-critics-poll-2021-albums/
https://uproxx.com/critic-polls/uproxx-music-critics-poll-2021-songs/

This is their 4th Annual Critics Poll, involving over 200 critics which a good replacement for Pazz & Jop. I don't know why the admin ignores this big list like he did for 2020, 2019 and 2018 lists. It's not similar to their regular year-end list that involves their staff only.
11mo
Shouldn't this one be added? https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-best-and-worst-albums-of-2021-x79rwmfmh
I know there's already one list from the sunday times but they released another one and since there's multiple magazines with multiples lists i think this one should be considered as well..

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/12/10/arts/60-best-albums-year/

It's big publication/newspaper in the USA. Since the article is behind paywall, so I'll decipher it.

“I Don’t Live Here Anymore” The War on Drugs
“Uneasy” Vijay Iyer
“They’re Calling Me Home” Rhiannon Giddens with Francesco Turrisi
“Second Line” Dawn Richard
“J.S. Bach: Brandenburg Concertos” Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin
“Heaux Tales” Jazmine Sullivan
“King’s Disease II” Nas
“… and then there’s this” Artifacts
“Maximum Sorrow!” Desperate Journalist
“The Offseason” J. Cole

Just saw that Nylon is not listed, it should be accepted, it's such a big and famous magazine..

JUBILEE #4
11mo
https://www.wsj.com/articles/best-music-2021-adele-kacey-musgraves-japanese-breakfast-tirza-tyler-the-creator-11639085879

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has published their favorite releases days ago, I've submitted the link but the admin hasn't add it probably because it's behind the paywall. So let me decipher the list which is unranked one :

Adele - 30
Kacey Musgraves - star-crossed
Dawn Richard - Second Line
Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
Rostam Batmanglij - Changephobia
Tirzah - Colourgrade
The War on Drugs - I Don't Live Here Anymore
Snail Mail - Valentine
Tyler, the Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
Madlib - Sound Ancestors
Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra - Promises
Yasmin Williams - Urban Driftwood

Jubilee top 5 YEP!
11mo
SIMBI might acc stay first 🥳
11mo
This is the only list made in Chile, and one of the most important in Latin America https://www.humonegro.com/magazine/articulos/mejores-discos-internacionales-2021/
11mo
HumoNegro, one of the top rock/indie music publications in Chile, just released their top 50 https://www.humonegro.com/magazine/articulos/mejores-discos-internacionales-2021/
11mo
Wow, Sour being ahead of albums such as Jubilee, Home Video, Little Oblivions or Ignorance is laughable. Painfully derivative pop with cringeworthy lyrics over genuinely better written records.
11mo
Please consider including The Daily Mail and Truck Music Store.
11mo
poor dave
11mo
Olivia Rodrigo at top 6 and Darkside doesn't appear currently in any year end lists 😨 Shame on you critics!
11mo
Aren't you going to add The Tab and Daily Mail UK??
11mo
Sam Fender at #1? Seriously NME? lol
11mo
poor slowthai
11mo
NME we’re so close by then they out Sam Fender above Simz… like what? No.
11mo
OMG Donda so close to making it. The scenes when a 57 Critic Score album makes the Top 50 of the year.
11mo
Why aoty includes year end album list by one publication but not song list by the same publication, that’s wired
11mo
Add The Tab and Gaffa!
11mo
Little Oblivious and to hell with it getting recognition? Love to see it!! :)
11mo
Let's go SOUR! :)
11mo
poor james blake
11mo
What in the world happened to For Those I Love? After being the top album all year, it can’t even make it out of the honorable mentions? I don’t listen to it every day, but it’s stellar and exactly the sort of raw, unique effort that belongs on year end lists. I figured critics would eat it up in their retrospectives.
11mo
Jubilee at #6 let's gooo
11mo
SIMBI still #1 LESGOOOOOOOO
11mo
chemtrails rising!!
11mo
Jubilee climbing...when it's right it's right
11mo
L'Rain - Fatigue is # 1 on The Wire's 2021 Rewind. Hopefully, unlocked list will be published soon.
11mo
Slant’s giving jubilee’s first #1 let’s goooo
11mo
Pitchfork been reading all their readers’ complaints about them not being the vanguard for music criticism, so after a year replete with ridiculous reviews and scores, they put out THAT year end list to try and make it all better. It looks desperate as opposed to inspired.
11mo
Doesn’t look like SIMBI is gonna last much longer at the top 💔💔

Beyond me how some of these lists are putting Arlo Parks above it
11mo
"Carnage" at #28?!
Olivia Rodrigo, Arlo Parks, Jazmine Sullivan, Dry Cleaning and Snail Mail in the top 15?
Self-Esteem and Adele rank higher than Black Country, New Road?
The fuck are the people who make these lists smoking?

At least Mdou Moctar cracked the top 10 and C. Tangana and Arooj Aftab made the list with their great LPs, but overall, these rankings are pretty lame.
11mo
Silk sonic flop on this lists lmao
11mo
billboard’s list is the worst so fat
11mo
billboards list is a mess
11mo
...but for how long will the valiant Mdou Moctar hold off the thundering gallop of Olivia Rodrigo? Stay tuned to find out...
11mo
Why do three separate writers' lists from The New York Times warrant separate inclusion when most publications are represented by a list compiled by all writers or by one chief writer?
11mo
Brockhampton's album was so good tho T.T
11mo
I think we should expect Pitchfork's list week to start tomorrow if we're going off the same schedule as last year
11mo
Uproxx / Steven Hyden has a AOTY list that’s not on here yet: https://uproxx.com/indie/steven-hyden-favorite-albums-of-2021/
11mo
Little Simz em #1 como ela merece!
11mo
Expecting Carnage and Daddy's Home to make top 10 still.
11mo
SIMBI best stay first
11mo
Im glad to see that the critics aren't sucking Billie Eilish's dick like they were in 2019.
11mo
The wasteland that is the "end of the year" comments section. enjoy it yall!
11mo
Oh great, it's third of december and we're deciding one month early what was the best from this year even if technically something great could still be released. Well, i'm prepared to find someone sucking off a very shitty pop album which got a few hits on it just to save them from 'oh no lol why do you think we don't like pop we included this didn't we?'

Anyway, rooting for Nature Always Wins, won't make an appearance probably, but it was too good for me to not have hope at least
11mo
nah
11mo
Be Sweet #1 song!!
11mo
no clb or donda even on the honourable mentions looooool
11mo
LP!, Nurture, and SWNT are nowhere to be seen. This is tragic, but even more tragic is the baffling exclusion of Hobo Johnson’s modern masterpiece “Hobo Johnson Alienates His Audience”.
11mo
SOUR TOP 10 we love to see
11mo
SIMBI at the top where it should be, hopefully it stays there
11mo
No Peggy?
11mo
where is nurture?
