This new Diplo album...it's NOT GOOD.

American DJ, Diplo has been dropping EPs, and mixtapes, but Snake Oil is his first album since 2004. While I don't think his brand of EDM has aged very well, I was intrigued to hear he was releasing a country pop album. Now I can safely say that this is one of the worst things I've heard this year. I think that after the mega success of last year's country trap crossover, Old Town Road, (which is actually remixed on the LP), Diplo decided to jump on the bandwagon and make an entire album in this style, and wow, it is bad. It is hard to, and not to mention kind of insulting to call this mess country. It's basically an electronic album, made by someone who thinks that Sam Hunt invented country music. Diplo takes these tacky DJ beats that went out style for a reason, and throws them in a blender with the most over done country instrumentals, with the acoustic guitars, strings, and harmonicas, that just reads like knockoff, knockoff, and knockoff. The lyrics, the features and instrumentals are terrible, the production is overproduced to Hell, the genre fusions are ugly and anemic, it truly is an incredibly unlikeable project. It's sad that records like these are going to be defining pieces for country music this decade. I am just terrified that this is only part 1. This new Diplo album...it's NOT GOOD.
