I can only listen to three songs on this album, such a shame as I loved their first. It's not the change of direction I hoped they'd take. From infectious, catchy hooks to lots of electronic "noise".
Highlights: Bambi, Doubt, Golden
I love every single song on this album. I've been coming back to it since it's been released and have never got tired of it.
Highlights: Buttercup, Epitaph, Vacation, Simple Season
I've been a huge fan of Laura Marling ever since Alas, I Cannot Swim, was released. I've enjoyed experiencing the journey she has been on as an artist, from the light, upbeat melodies of her debut, to her more recent albums which without a doubt are all fantastic, but perhaps not as immediately accessible.
For me, Song For Our Daughter sits ahead of Semper Femina and Short Movie, but behind her other four releases. In my opinion it starts strongly with three up tempo (in comparison to the ... read more
I listened to this the whole way through and everything kind of blended together. I couldn't name any standout tracks. The vocals reminded me a bit of The Jezabels (probably just me there).
There's nothing particularly groundbreaking here but sonically it's pleasant. Fall Apart is my favourite track.
It's nice enough. It was a pleasant listen through but is it something I'd come back to out of choice? Probably not. I've saved the album on Spotify as I wouldn't turn any of the songs off if they came on shuffle though.
Highlights for me are "I feel Alive" and "Witching Hour"
This is my album of the first quarter. I love it, I can't describe exactly what it is but I just find this so easy to listen to, which is the first time I've had that experience with Soccer Mommy. Circle the Drain is a low key earworm as well, I can't get it out of my head.
I love Annie and I enjoy David Byrne's music. I like his unique voice - although I can see how it might grate on some. I have tried to listen to the whole album occasionally and I do find it difficult to do a complete run through. I enjoy Who, Dinner for Two, I am an Ape, and Lazarus. All of the other songs I struggle with.
Personal opinion is that St Vincent's parts on this album are weak - the instrumental and David Byrne's voice go well together but I find it just overpowers her. I love ... read more
Tennis are one of my all-time favourite bands, some say their music is too samey but I love their sound. Swimmer doesn't disappoint. For me, it's been the easiest album to get into. I struggled with Yours, Conditionally for a while. I am amazed at how consistent they've been. Now that I've become fully immersed in their whole discography, I don't think I could name a some of theirs I don't like.
I can see myself coming back to this again and again, as I have done with every previous album. ... read more
