One of my favorite albums of all time. Perfect pretty much all the way through. It’s about the beauty of connection, with both nature and humans. Consistently amazing writing and sound. Even in its darkest moments, there’s a sense of optimism that somehow makes its emotional heavy songs feel so much more impactful, as heard in the haunting refrain of “Migration”, “This is why he knows the way”, or in “I Left The Grounds”, where the narrator ... read more
Deeply, truly, horrifically underrated and overlooked. My favs were Snow, Lakes of Canada, and Green Grass, Red Tree.
Steeped is deadass one of the best songs ever constructed yall sleeping on ts fr
One of Loren Connors’ best albums. There is a weird tense nostalgic feeling that just hangs over this album. Like looking back on fond memories of growing up. Haunting and sparse in a way you can only find in a Loren Connors album.
This is the most terrifying album I have ever listened to. Imaad Wasif’s vocals on this album sound like a melting witch, it’s awesome. She Takes Me, while being the most accessible song in here, is a kick ass opener, adding a sense of intensity that hangs over the rest of the album. Severance Denied is a short but “sweet” song with a terrifying screeching vocal delivery at the end. Rare Anger is an incredibly intense song with Imaad’s most… impassioned ... read more
An album that never got it’s due respect. An incredibly dark listen. Like Spiderland, this album creates it’s own world, but the world that The Going Away Present builds, while still dark and mysterious, adds a sense of horror and apocalyptic scenery that Spiderland only hints at. Am I saying that this is a better album than Spiderland? Hell no, I don’t think anything will ever come even close to challenging it’s greatness in the future. But is this still a damn good ... read more
No words can describe how amazing this album is. Near perfection. Absolutely gorgeous.
Dark, at times noisy, but always sincere. Cynthia was one of those artists that never got their due recognition. Songs like Bright Night and especially closer (if you don’t count the hidden track) Aaron Matthew have stuck with the few who heard them. I hope one day the cause of death will be released so us small group of fans can finally get some closure. Rest in peace, Cindy, your, at times difficult, gorgeous body of work will always be remembered.
Some really good post-rock songs. I especially love The Seasons Reverse, No Sense Of Wonder, Each Dream is An Example, and Mouth Canyon.
A surprisingly coherent album with songs that range from low key haziness like “Forever” to criminally underrated trip hop bops like “Another Girl”. Considering the oldest member of X-Cetra at the time was about 11, it is surprising that the singing isn’t awful, nonetheless there is anything worth preserving, but these pre-pre-teens somehow pulled off the impossible and made a damn good trip hop inspired pop album. Some of the songs aren’t great but ... read more
I haven’t listen to every song but I am not the biggest fan of the super shinified production on gonna lose and rocksteady but I don’t care because rocksteady is a banger and I will make an edit if I think the rest is good.
The first four songs are so great. In The Morning into Reasons, then Big Dipper, the CAR. Car is so great. It is strange that I have brain activity. Tomorrow’s flat beneath the weight of next day next day next day next day next day next day next day next day” Leviticus 14:3
