Woah. Easily one of the best death metal albums I've heard this year, and maybe even this decade. This thing is packed with emotions. It has some cool sci-fi themes that make it an even more interesting experience. It is a progressive death metal album, which is sometimes a red flag, because there are some progressive metal albums that tend to be a little too sterile and overly technical without much flavor. Not all prog metal is like this, and I love a lot of prog metal, but there’s enough to make me worry about that being the case when listening to a new album. All that being said, this album is not a show-off fest, and it is still pretty raw, not too clean. The compositions are pretty varied, so it's not just very fast riffs combined with with blast beats and super guttural growls all the way through. Instead, you have moments of catchy, chugging riffs along with more subdued, ominous sounds. So the album is not too one-note. There are still guttural growls, but they work well with what the band is trying to achieve. Another plus is that the album is only 36 minutes long, so you're not wasting a lot of time checking this album out if the album ends up disappointing you. Great album, and easily one of my favorite metal records of this year.
