Gorillaz - Humanz

Disclaimer: Listened to this album via a Vinyl-rip.

By far Gorillaz most fluid album, but that in its self proves to be a problem, Gorillaz being known for destroying numerous genre's in the space of a few minutes. This album has a clear sound, a Dystopian disco, as if the entire album, revolves around one wild house party.

Sonically therefore, this is Gorillaz weakest offering.
Again this album is not immediately gratifying either, as is the norm with Gorillaz albums, but this proves a huge problem if the album is so linear, nobody is interested in listening to the same song, with no new textures and instrumentation nuances to notice, what you hear the first time will no doubt be all you'll hear after the 100th listen.

Overall, this definitely isn't the Gorillaz worst, not their best either. It is a new chapter in their sound, even if that chapter is only one page long, its still worth getting lost in.

PS If you did not enjoy the singles, you'll hate this album. Perhaps with the exception of "Busted and Blue" which also serves as the albums biggest highlight in my opinion. "Charger" is one of the few growers, since its so dense, after three or so listens it stands out as the most enduring, and the most Gorillaz track on this album, as absurd as that is to say when reviewing a Gorillaz album. This is 70% featured artists, 30% Gorillaz, when in the past this was reversed.

Finally, for long time Gorillaz fans this will feel like a disappointment after the long wait, and dreams of a Demon Dayz competitor, but for newcomers this is a great if not the best entry point, since this is probably their only properly functioning album.

75 - Definitely worth a listen, and as far as I'm concerned this album solidifies Gorillaz space as one of the few bands/artist to make it out of the 2000's alive(critically).

dude, I like your review... this album is pretty good and gorillaz wouldn't be gorillaz if they didn't try different things everytime. This is Damon playing with a different way of doing things, that's all... I think the people that'll get most disappointed are going to be mostly the 'Demon Days best album' crowd. Far from their best, but far from bad, too.
