This band always manages to sound cheerful, throughout their career, they remind of long-gone days in the music business where a band didn't have to deal with dark issues and produce gritty, "personal" music. It doesn't completely work - quite frankly, all the positivity gets tiring rather quickly, but it's a fun enough record, competently recorded and rather catchy.
BABYMETAL - Metal Resistance

I'm actually quite shocked by the quality of this. Their debut was awfully inconsistent, with the fantastic Megitsune and some seriously fun stuff thrown in with awful, awful crap. And I honestly didn't think they'd get any better - when does a novelty act ever produce a GOOD follow-up? But they did. The compositions and instrumental work are absolutely tight, it's a mature album with fully developed sounds, some incredible tracks and some seriously shocking moments. Seiko Oomori - TOKYO BLACK HOLE

She has done it again. Seiko Oomori is the most consistently fantastic artist I have ever known, and this album - her third in 1.5 years - is no exception. The diversity displayed on this album is STAGGERING, so is the force of emotion behind it all. A glowing recommendation from me. Anyone with a truly open mind should find a lot to love here.

Ayumi doesn't have a good trackrecord with remasters. Not at all, really, most of them are just somewhat louder. So imagine my surprise when the 15th Anniversary Edition of A BEST is crip, clear and just plain beautiful! I've known these songs for years, listened to them over and over, but never have they sounded this good, never have they had this much detail and soul. I'm hearing elements I've never noticed before on every song, no exceptions. I'm still disappointed that no alternate versions ... read more

Lee Hi's latest EP, officially released as a "half album" fits in nicely with the rest of the current K-Pop landscape. Think "if Meghan Trainor was more sexual" and you can envision the kind of utterly soul-less, bubblegum "swingpop" on this EP. As usual for Korean pop records, it's all very sleek and competent, but has nothing to say and hits no sincere emotional marks.
