blink-182 - Enema of the State

There's really no bad songs here in my opinion, it's really just a matter of what's overplayed or not that influences my enjoyment of it. For what it is, it's a rock solid pop punk album filled with catchy hooks and silly lyrics that are just begging to get stuck in your head, and as much as I love Dude Ranch, Travis undoubtedly elevated this band's songwriting to new heights. Is the singing particularly great? Of course not, but we're not talking about Pavarotti here, it's 90s pop punk.

Bob Dylan - Another Side of Bob Dylan

While this album isn't exactly perfect, following albums would perfect the expressive lyricism and storytelling of this one, I still think this is an absolute classic in the genre. I don't think much else really needs to be said, it's a more loose and fun solo Dylan record he did in one day, and it sounds like it, largely to its benefit. Just another great folk record.
John Frusciante - Shadows Collide With People

This album is nearly as bloated as it is fantastic. Other than a couple bad and overly long electronic interludes, this album is a pretty solid continuation of John's cool electronic-based Singer-Songwriter work. 64 minutes is a little too long, though, and I wish some of the electronic influences were integrated a bit more in the actual songs and weren't mostly delegated to intros and interludes, but I see myself coming back to a lot of this material.

I haven't listened to really any ABR other than Constellations, and I really like that album, so I looked forward to checking out their newest to see how they've progressed over the years. Judging by reviews, it doesn't seem they've progressed at all, but a solid sound is a solid sound. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The big downside is that nothing here particularly wows me, it's just solid melodic metalcore with some occasional guest vocals, solos, and the occasional blastbeat on a couple ... read more
Depeche Mode - Ultra

This is a very solid album from some synthpop legends, though this album has a sound closer to a trip hop Nine Inch Nails than a lot of what came before it. Some songs meander and don't do a lot for me, but songs in the first half especially I really like. It's been a while since I've listened to this band but nothing has really disappointed me from what I've heard. Granted, I'm mostly familiar with their 90s releases.
