Lupe Fiasco - Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor

I've been meaning to give this a listen for the longest time, but my procrastinating ass finally got around to it. I had known about Kick, Push and Daydreaming before listening, both of which I love. But when I listened to this LP in its entirety, I was pleasantly surprised to find a handful of tracks that match, and sometimes even exceed those 2 records in terms of pure artistry. Food & Liquor is a gratifying listen in every sense. From the subtle MC'ing, to the orchestral production, to ... read more
Slum Village - Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit)

By 2004, Slum Village had lost 2 of their group members (J Dilla and Baatin) making the remaining members a duo. I would imagine that because of this, the remaining group members felt lots of pressure on themselves to deliver a solid follow up to their previous album. Luckily, the departure in members didn't affect the quality of their music that much. At Detriot's Deli, T3 and Elzhi provide a variety of tasty sandwiches that everyone can enjoy. Most of them are around the same level of ... read more
Busta Rhymes - Anarchy

Eh, I've heard worse. It's definitely underwhelming in comparison to his first 3, but a handful of solid features and quality tracks prevent it from being a complete abomination. I get what Busta was trying to do here, but there's 2 central reasons as to why it didn't hit the mark:

1.) The whole thing is far too one-dimensional for an artist like Busta Rhymes. Don't get me wrong, hardcore Busta is my favorite Busta; but part of what made him great on those first 3 records was his ability to ... read more

N.O.R.E. - N.O.R.E.

As I listen to this album, I find myself scratching my head at what exactly it's trying to be. Noreaga tries so many different sounds here; the overall sound is anything but cohesive. With so many different producers, some generic R&B cuts, some hardcore raps, and some tracks that simply don't fit his style all that well. It's very all over the place as a from front to back. I don't know if it's the fact that he didn't have Tragedy Khadafi this time around, but something tells me he didn't ... read more
Jadakiss - Kiss of Death

A huge step-up in quality compared to his debut. While Jada still suffers from issues regarding track-to-track consistency, this project features more standout tracks than his last. There isn't anything quite on the level of We Gonna Make It, but a handful of songs that come close. Shine, Why, Hot Sauce To Go, Real Hip Hop, Still Feel Me, Gettin' It In, and I'm Goin Back are all noteworthy records that can be hailed as some of the best songs released under his name.

Jadakiss gives you his ... read more

Hello. I'm making my first community list to celebrate my achievement of 100 followers. I was wondering what your 3 most underrated albums of all time and 3 most overrated albums of all time.

I have 53 (could change) AOTY users in this list. I also ask that you please give 1 album or artist recommendation. I will shout you when then the list is complete.

Hey AllAboutMusic!
I just hit 200 followers, thank you all so much!!! To celebrate I'm doing another community list, as my last one seemed to go relatively well...

Ok, here's the scenario:

You're abducted by aliens and they're curious about the human race, and they ask you about the strange assortments of sounds we call 'music'.
What song or album would you pick to show them that encapsulates the reason why humans listen and enjoy music.

Thank you again for your contribution!!

Hello there AllAboutMusic!
Would you like to be part of my new community list? This time, the topic is "Airplane Mode": what would be, in your opinion, a perfect song to play while flying high up in the sky.
I'm looking forward to your submission! And for this occasion I will also make a playlist for Spotify and maybe YouTube as well

Hi AllAboutMusic,

I'm currently asking for submissions for the sequel of AOTY's Wildest Lyrics Imaginable. For this one, what is the most gut-wrenching/depressing lyrics you've ever heard in a song that has left an impact on your life? For the list, I'll have TWs for each song listed. I'll make sure to update you once it's done. Thank you :)

Hey AllAboutMusic, I’m working on my first community list since I recently hit 300 followers, and the question I wanted to base it around is this: what is an album you feel doesn’t get talked about enough. Not something that’s underrated or overrated, but an album that doesn’t get brought into conversations as much as it should. Thanks for your help!

Hello AllAboutMusic!!
It’s about that time I make another user-based list, so here’s the prompt:
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? It doesn’t need to be your favorite song, but one that you would personally choose to listen to with no other options.
Okay bye bye!!

Hey! So, I have a new review if you want to check it out. I don’t usually do this, but I wanted to promote this one quite a bit, so if you want to check it out, here it is. It is fine if you don’t to check it out. I’m only promoting this one cause of how proud I am of it:

Hey man! I see on your page that you’re a big D’Angelo fan (I am also) so I was wondering if you’ve ever heard his live album, Live At the Jazz Cafe, London ? In my opinion it honestly rivals some of his best work. If you end up giving it a listen tell me what you think 😁

About

I enjoy all types of hip-hop. Boom bap, jazz rap, abstract, you name it. Into other genres as well though. Feel free to send any recs!
