Goon - Heaven Is Humming
6d ago
80
The Californian rock band releases their debut album. It’s a record inspired by 90’s alternative and indie rock. The band also uses elements of garage and noise rock. The songs switch between eerie, melodic and aggressive. Vocally, there are some nicely executed harmonies that add to the vibe of the tracks. The moody lyrics are centred around the condition of lead singer, Kenny Becker, in which he is losing his ability to smell and taste. The delivery is sincere, but the amount of “yeahs” and “do-do-dos,” can feel repetitive at times. “Heaven is Humming” is a well-balanced album that's unpredictable, but also accessible. The band’s distinctive style and personal themes make it an original effort.
Best track: “Deny”
