Jamie Lenman - Shuffle

This is the third solo album by the English musician and is entirely made up of covers. As the title depicts, Lenman ‘shuffles’ through his favourite songs, movies and stories; giving them his own unique twist. The tight rhythm section, chunky riffs and well-executed vocal melodies, throwback to his days with the band, Reuben, and 2017’s solo effort, “Devolver”. Lenman also takes his metal and folk influences to reinterpret the covers. This shows the singer-songwriter's versatility, as he can turn songs around using different genres. The concept of the record is interesting, but it also makes it feel somewhat incoherent. The spoken word tracks and theme song covers may not appeal to everyone, as the context of these tracks is not always clear. But still, this album brings you closer to the inspirations and influences of Jamie Lenman as an artist and a person. It’s entertaining and impressive.
Best track: “Killer”
