still as solid as cry baby imo, even if i always preferred cry baby over the years. plus the film is beautiful albeit if its a glorified hour long music video.
yall are annoying as hell with how you treat melanie especially on this site. u simply just cant comprehend her work and reduce it to fetishization instead of using ur big ol noggins to really thinking about it more. very solid album and was the first album i ever truly obsessed over
this album jumped from my least favorite lana album to maybe my top 3 just recently and i couldn't be happier about it. this album is in my opinion her most beautiful album vocally to this day. her vocals on songs like wildflower wildfire, cherry blossom, arcadia, and sweet carolina are just heavenly. speaking of sweet carolina (a cute closing song dedicated to her sister caroline aka chuck) is one of my absolute favorite lana songs of all time. that song just invokes some emotion in me no song ... read more
any album following norman is a setup honestly, but chemtrails does a very good job at following up that masterpiece. this album is way too hated in the lana fandom for no reason. a few of my absolute favorite lana songs like dark but just a game, and tulsa jesus freak are on this record. but thats not to say the other songs arent absolutely gorgeous too. breaking up slowly and white dress were the first 2 songs from this record i was obsessed with and i still think are solid songs. the only ... read more
i really needn't say more outside of the 100 score but i will. absolutely her best project. every single song is fucking perfect and i mean that. the only song that isnt a 10/10 for me is california but even that is still so fucking good. this is just the quintessential lana album. this is her peak artistry and is one of the best albums of all time i can say confidently. she did something with norman that she herself didnt even achieve up until this point. the fact that it didnt win any grammys ... read more
while this isnt my favorite lana project anymore, its still of course an outstanding one and one i adore. for some reason i feel some sort of a "shift" in her career with this album that i cant explain. maybe its the year it came out compared to her previous record even if its only a 2 year gap, but something about lust for life just feels different to me and i like it. my thoughts on the actual album itself: gorgeous and lyrical genius as always. you'll notice those 2 terms being ... read more
at this moment in time, my favorite lana album. my god this is a fucking beautiful project. from track 1 you're instantly put inside a dreamy string filled world that literally teleports me to another place where i feel like im floating. genuinely doesnt miss a single beat with this album and dont even get me started on its production cause my god. so dreamy, so beautiful, so gorgeous which is my favorite type of lana music.
the backlash lana received in her early career is truly disturbing and weird, considering how people criticized her for "glamorizing abuse" which was literally just her singing about the abusive relationship she was in with this album. the themes and tones of this album are something so ahead of its time as are all of her projects and the lyrics as always are outwriting all of your favs with ease. my thing with this album is that i have to be "in the mood" for it because its ... read more
i always view this as the extension to born to die, even though to be honest they aren't even super similar sonically. thats mostly due to the fact that it came out so soon after born to die and theres a deluxe edition of sorts with the paradise ep attached to it. but i do genuinely love this ep as i do born to die, its only lower ranking here to be honest because its only 8 songs. the ride music video is a must watch for every human being i think
theres honestly too much to say about lana and particularly this album and its impact its had on the music industry for one review, but it needs to be studied how this album single handedly shifted the pop/alt scene and influenced how pop artists could write their own songs about their own experiences which was still a very taboo thing at the time. lana and this album do not get enough credit for their contributions to the industry, especially with born to die being arguably the most ... read more
her latest project and a strong return to pop. her best pop record since 1989 personally and it follows that albums shoes of nearly every song being good enough to be a single. its fun lyrically which i kinda missed from her after how serious folklore and evermore were, and overall just a cohesive fun project.
same notes as my red 2012 review, just this time with more amazing songs. i will say that some songs mainly the 3 big singles (i knew you were trouble, 22, we are never ever getting back together) i do not like nearly as much on this version compared to the original due to the matured vocals and lack of nostalgia because of the difference. still doesnt take away from how good this project is and is still my favorite album from her
wow this rerecording really made me appreciate how good this album truly is. i used to dismiss it as just some country album even years ago when i first started getting into her music, but hearing it with her matured vocals and production really makes this already good album shine. the one thing with taylors versions in general is that the album sorta loses its "projectness" as it starts to sorta drag with all the additional vault songs. speaking of those, theyre probably some of the ... read more
honestly just copy paste folklore review and put it here. same notes as its sister record. i do slightly prefer this one though at this current moment in time
she truly outdid herself on all fronts with this album. her best lyrics to date, probably tied with its sister record evermore. the production and storytelling on folklore is just unmatched by any of her other albums personally and its such a beautiful piece of work.
similar to her previous album reputation, ive had an emotional roller coaster in terms of how this project has aged for me. like rep, some of my absolute favorite pop songs are on here such as miss americana & the heartbreak prince, cornelia street, and cruel summer. speaking of that last one, she is genuinely insane for not making that a single. the singles for this album were.... bad if im just being blunt. you need to calm down is a cute pride song so i can get that but ME! as lead ... read more
ive kinda had an emotional roller coaster in terms of how i feel about this album. on one hand it has some of my absolute favorite pop songs from her like dancing with our hands tied, dress, and getaway car. then we have other songs that i still like, just have kinda aged for me personally. still a very solid project and iconic ass comeback with look what you made me do as we all know.
dont think i really need to say much. 1989 is just the pop bible. give it the 10's it deserves
my fav album from her to this day. literally skipless imo. i could go on and on but i dont think i need to, best album opener and album closer of her career imo again. iconic singles, iconic aesthetic, iconic tour. just iconic. tv only just adds to the goodness
keeps the trend of one upping her previous album and my god she LEAPED upwards with speak now. still my 2nd favorite album of hers to this day and cannot wait for taylors version. this albums production and the fact that its 100% self written automatically makes it iconic
