AOTY's Most Slept On Albums of 2020

I will definitely try to listen to as many of these as possible, if I forgot you or didn't ask in your shoutbox feel free to sound off in the comments

Joji - Nectar
52
@MattsReviews's pick

My reaction:...No hate to Joji but I was personally whelmed by this project, idk...
The Globs - The Weird and Wonderful World of The Globs
72
@Toasterqueen12's pick

my reaction: It's a neat pop punk album, feels like I've heard something like this before but can't complain, at only 100 listeners on Spotify they're definitely pretty underground but maybe that'll go up one day
Ben Levin Group - The Wave That Got Away
64
@Toasterqueen12's 2nd pick
Arthur Russell - Roulette Intermedium, New York
73
@TreyLikesBands's pick

My reaction: I don't think I'll ever fully understand this postmortem live album, but it's still pretty great and has piqued my interest in some of Arthur Russell's other work
1 800 PAIN - BEST HOUSE ON A BAD BLOCK
64
@Chode's pick

My reaction: If this is what trashcore sounds like, then yeah, it's kind of self-explanatory
TWRP - Over the Top
56
@eliiscool5's pick

My reaction: Daft Punk but boring
oh wait that's Justice
Sega Bodega - Salvador
63
@nicoperagine's pick

My reaction: Somewhat intriguing industrial bass/hyper-pop adjacent album, great production but lyrically there isn't much more to it than "me horny"
RAY - Pink
42
@N0stalgia's pick

My reaction: Combining shoegaze with j-pop sounds like a nice idea on paper, but man did this album drag for me, if you're really into either or both of these genres you might enjoy this more than I did.
Food House - Food House
52
@SMTCubes's & @redbded's pick

FUCK I loved Thos Moser
Fish Narc - WiLDFiRE
50
@Basic_Garci's pick

My reaction: This dude sounds like a Kyle wtf u mean his name's Ben?
Katie Dey - mydata
57
@SMTCubes's 2nd pick

my reaction: Kinda unimpressed by the vocals, otherwise it's just an average art pop ablum
Animal Collective - Bridge to Quiet
80
@Dombot's pick

My reaction: Maybe the best thing AnCo have put out in more than a decade
Sematary & Ghost Mountain - HUNDRED ACRE WRIST
51
@Stankysauce's pick

My reaction: If I have to hear one more "DJ SORROW" producer tag imma lose it
Couch Slut - Take A Chance On Rock 'n' Roll
48
@CLJesse's pick

My reaction: Y'all ever seen It Chapter 2 where Pennywise disguises itself as an old woman? To me, the vocals on this album reminded me of Pennywise's shrieks as a big old tittied bitch
(I generally like noise rock but this wasn't it chief, sorry)
The Cool Greenhouse - The Cool Greenhouse
73
@MasterCrackfox's pick

My reaction: It's a decent post-punk album, like a more laid back version of Squid's EP from last year with some more satirical political commentary
Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2
78
@redbded's pick

Great pop rap EP, Fantano gave it a 9 but I'd agree Tkay Maidza is still slept on
Moses Sumney - græ
68
@RakkSmells's & @EnigmaticSnob's pick

The second half didn't really do it for me, but this is still a slept-on album tbh
Chudahye Chagis - Underneath the Dangsan Tree Tonight
72
@kimchilli's pick

My reaction: Pretty underground Korean artist at 150 monthly Spotify listeners, this is mix of Korean tadeonal folk and various forms of neo-psych resembling either dub or funk from track to track, it was definitely a vibe.
City Light Mosaic - Indigo City Burning
85
@nijakiler17's pick

my reaction: Surprisingly pretty solid set of dreamy, atmospheric pop tracks with a vaporwave tinge, think early M83 but sadder
Charmer - Ivy
52
@Docky's pick
Mourning Beloveth / The Ruins Of Beverast - Don't Walk On The Mass Graves
80
@Tristan's pick

My reaction: Pretty great blend of doom metal and psych rock
Felt - Felt 4 U
61
@MrMercury7's pick

My reaction: It's an ok boom bap album, the two lyricists remind me of the features on some Nujabes tracks but production wise it wasn't really that impressive imo
Igor Krutogolov - Cold Exhaust
67
@M3GAWATT's pick

My reaction: It's a somewhat intriguing blend of noise rock and jazz fusion but I don't think I'll ever really come back to this.
Boldy James & Sterling Toles - Manger On McNichols
81
@Scre4meh's pick

My reaction: Boldy James somehow manages to outdo himself in less than a year by making a better album than The Price of Tea in China (which was already pretty solid, bar a few tracks), it's a lot more of a passion project and a bit more experimental, with some standout production from this Sterling Toles guy, I'll probably try to write a more in-depth review sometime later cause there is a whole lot to take from this album
Black Thought - Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane And Abel
79
@Rater's pick

Black Thought as an artist is hella slept on, his previous Streams of Thought EPs from 2018 are also high quality conscious bars upon bars
Couture - Fashion Week
52
@FoxInTheCity's pick

My reaction: Ambient can be a bit more of a hit or miss for me sometimes, and in this case it was more of a miss
Slauson Malone - Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak)
71
@pizzagrande's pick

My reaction: Slauson's Malone's latest EP is great but it doesn't provide as much as his last album imo.
Special Interest - The Passion Of
90
@AndreManfre93's pick

My reaction: This is absolutely brutal, goddamn
Arel Happening - Arel Happening
63
@JoaoSantos's pick

My reaction: Average folk album one might find stumbling through Bandcamp, it's not too bad but nothing super special imo
Honey Harper - Starmaker
51
@spicyb's pick

My reaction: It had some moments but I wasn't that impressed overall
The Revolutionary Army Of The Infant Jesus - Songs of Yearning
88
@MikeOwen's pick

My reaction: Damn, shit nearly converted me to Catholicism
Sprain - As Lost Through Collision
85
@MickyT's pick

My reaction: It's like Slint's Spiderland but better and noisier
Ichiko Aoba - "Gift" at Sogetsu Hall
71
@Flamingooooo's & @louisomahoney’s pick

A nice serene live album from Japanese folk singer/songwriter Ichiko Aoba, I enjoyed this but not as much as qp
Reol - Kinjitou
51
@hiphopcritiques's pick
Samia - The Baby
47
@kreaysean's and @TomBejoy's pick
Billy Cobb - Halloween V
69
@zachthesnack's 2nd pick
Billy Cobb - Graduating Life
60
@zachthesnack's 3rd pick
Stygian - VIBRANCE
59
@TomBejoy's 2nd pick
Shamir - Shamir
53
@Mixtape's pick
Deftones - Ohms
66
@KoopaToad18's pick

I don't really buy entirely into the Deftones hype but I'll admit Ceremony, Urantia, and Pompeji are pretty solid tracks, didn't deserve a 3 by Fantano that shit was kind of cruel
Jealous of the Birds - Peninsula
62
@ RickSalix‘s 2nd pick
Skylar Gudasz - Cinema
64
@JacksonLerner's pick
