Show Me the Body - Survive

To put it simply, my only complaint when it comes to Show Me The Body's new EP, "Survive" is the unfortunate brevity!

"Survive" consists of three pummelling hardcore punk bangers which come together to make one cohesive politically-charged statement! The New Yorkers have been continuously impressing me with every project they've released from their incredibly ambitious debut, "Body War" to their collaborative mixtape in 2017 and finally their infectious sophomore album, "Dog Whistle". With all that being said, I feel like the band is still ironing the kinks of their whole hardcore revival sound. This new EP shows a very promising and refined version of the messy yet invigorating sound found on "Dog Whistle". These three tracks are near perfect!

"Rubberband" just oozes that despondent and radical energy damning the entire world with crushing production and powerful lyrics. There's just something so special about how Pratt's energy vocally makes such an intimidating soundscape sound so accessible? Well, maybe not accessible but certainly sticky to the point that I find myself returning frequently.

Lyrically, this album continues the political and violent focus on the cutthroat systems that surround us. I thought the chorus of "People On TV" was a little basic, but I think the song itself taking a slightly more melodic and bare approach at times was intriguing. Also Pratt's delivery is just so charismatic, you can hear the disgust. The lead single is still the highlight. My god. This track is just perfect. Lyrically, "Survive" is an aggressive indictment of the police with the lines:

"I never cry
Watching pigs die
See you shedding tears
We're not the same kind"

Everything about the track is so anthemic and commanding! From the rewarding progression of the instrumentation slowly snowballing into this ball of rage to Pratt's muddied vocals slithering around the soundscape. It's brilliant.

Again, all I can say is that I WANT MORE! Hopefully this wonderful approach continues into Show Me The Body's next project!
