Very pretty, very fun album. But your basic run of the mill pop songs. Still very very fun, one of my favourites of 2024.
you know, I should make a collection of debut albums being better than they should be.
I had this album added to my Spotify for ages but never listened until I kept seeing chappell in my feed. but oh my goodness. I was in class listening to this, and every time a song came on I had to hold back because WHAT THE HELL??? a banger after banger after- you see what I mean. A must listen album.
how does one debut album have this many bops??? simply unbelievable. literally every song makes you want to listen to it again. some highlights: kiss with a fist, hurricane drunk, girl with one eye and drumming song. And ofc dog days are over, that's always a given.
it's in the title, it's short and sweet. not much to it lol. this was her establishing her place in the industry and it did just that.
crazy that espresso became a skip after the album release ngl. (I would also suggest anyone who doesn't want to sound flowery and wispy in their songs to not work with jack antonoff. I don't think he knows how to produce pop songs any other way.)
every track is great on its own. i have even looked them up separately on different occasions. they were all pretty memorable, ofc with some exceptions. and half the score is just because of 'she'. masterpiece of a song.
there are some albums that i love purely because they're fun. like it doesn't always have to be revolutionary?!! ig the reviewers don't agree. anyway, very cute and fun album, go listen.
there are some very strong songs and some that just... fizzle into the background.
now i'm here, stone cold crazy, killer queen and brighton rock in the same album is insane.
this rating is for florida, guilty as sin? and i can fix him (she really cooked with that), otherwise no. sorry. break up with jack antonoff. aaron dessner too.(he's tolerable, but still repetitive)
see, i would love to complain that sabrina's current era isn't for me, but i also wasn't present when she was releasing this masterpiece. From what we hear in manchild, the flowery twinkly vibe is going to stay for a while, but this just has that it factor. it has a perfect balance of songs you wanna lie down and listen to and also songs that make you get up and dance. sorry sabrina, i wasn't familiar with your game.
BIG FAN of the group, their performaces are insane. all of them are incredibly talented, but goddam, they need to put out music that THEY are making. MIA, gameboy were unique, and thus receive the love they are getting. it's only been a year, bit with the popularity they've reached, they should focus on making music unique to them, and not just song blueprints.
though im a bit surprised at the user score here, the album is genuinely so beautiful. every track has its own identity, and every track is worth listening to twice, if not more. i found this album through a story rec and i will forever be grateful, i hope to listen more from ali sethi, what an amazing artist.
the album wasn't my favorite in the beginning, but as more songs kept being added, it slowly warmed into my heart. don't get me wrong, i still loved the album, it's hozier for god's sake, but as time went on it just became better.
"The man who took us to church tries to take us to the same church, again, 14 times, six years later."
even though this is an absolutely jaw dropping read, HOW DARE YOU?
this album had some misses for me too, but it also has three of my top songs of all time. think of that what you will, my man always eats.
