This album is seriously a hidden gem. I had never heard of Blvck Svm before Spotify just randomly played one of his songs and I'm really glad it did. I had to check out the rest of his discography and for a debut album this is very impressive. On this album, Blvck Svm expresses his love for Michelin star meals and fine dining. It's just such a unique concept I've never heard before. His quiet smooth delivery paired with these starry, jazzy instrumentals makes you feel like ... read more
Lupe's style is a dying breed in hip hop today. It's a nice breath of fresh air to see that he's still got it after all these years. This album is really well executed for what he was going for, I won't get into the whole Amy Winehouse thing but, I mean he did it. The lyricism is there, I'm not normally a big fan of rappity rap rap's but Lupe manages to pull it off and not be cringe. The beats remind me a lot of Nujabes and there's really big Samurai Champloo ... read more
If the year ended tomorrow this would be my album of the year. If I had to describe this album in one word, it would be "smooth". I've been an Anderson .Paak fan for the better part of 8 years now and Knxwledge is probably my favorite producer alive, so this is kind of a match made in heaven for me. Why Lawd? is a big tonal shift from these boy's previous venture, Yes Lawd!. Paak is kinda pouring his heart out on this thing, discussing his recent divorce and coping with that pain. I ... read more
I wouldn't consider myself a fan of Ski but I liked some of his older stuff like Stokeley and appearances with X, so I went into this project with an open mind but I would say I'm still not moved. It's okay, if you like what Ski normally does, with the fast intricate flows then there's a lot of that here for you. But I felt this project was horribly bloated, I was ready for it to be over by like track 12. I really liked Future's appearance on this album. Ski's flow on Earwax is really good. The ... read more
The summer vibes are undeniably here. I enjoyed this album overall but it's definitely a little bloated. I think several tracks on here are forgettable and could be trimmed off and the project would be better for it (pretty much anything I rated below a 70). But overall, the beats are very smooth and danceable, and there's some nice guests on the album. I've always been a big fan of Kaytranada's production, and anytime you pair it up with a great vocalist like Charlotte Day Wilson or Rochelle ... read more
