Half an hour of absolutely balls-to-the-walls energy, KiCk i is undoubtedly an expression of Arca's prowess as an artist, commanding attention from her listeners throughout. Whether seen in the album's opening with Arca taking pride in her identity on 'Nonbinary,' or her glistening production and haunting vocals on closer 'No Queda Nada,' KiCk i is clearly an album that plans to hold absolutely zero punches.
This is also made abundantly clear with the album's guest spots, hosting some absolute gems in the forms of living legends and bright up-and-comers. Björk's vocals on 'Afterwards' are as beautiful as ever, serving as one of the album's more beautiful moments in seeing the artist perform side-by-side with her protege. There's also much to be said about Arca's collaboration with SOPHIE on the track 'La Chíqui,' an absolutely legendary moment as two revolutionary titans in music come together. The things I would give to have been a fly on the wall when these two met, I tell you.
That's not to ignore the collaboration with Shygirl and ROSALÍA on 'Watch' and 'KLK,' respectively. Both of these artists are absolute stars on their own, so to see Arca harness their individual star power with such finesse is impressive, if not surprising.
God bless the Mutants.
