KICK ii is one hell of an eclectic soundscape, taking many aspects of reggaeton, electronic, ambient, and so much more, packing them all into one impressive package. Particularly impressive, of course, is Arca's production, as stellar as ever; her production on 'Born Yesterday' is particularly ear-catching, making up for the inclusion of... well, you know wh, and the threesome combo of 'Prada,' 'Rakata,' and 'Tiro' is absolutely masterful.
Really, the first half of KICK ii is fantastic -- it's disappointing, then, when you enter the final stretch of tracks and realize how underwhelming it is. KICK ii, in my eyes, immediately takes a dip following 'Lethargy,' and it rarely finds its footing after that (aside from the previously mentioned 'Born Yesterday'). The second half takes FOREVER to get where it's going, and by the time it does, I find myself more often than not disengaged with the listening experience because of it. With exceptions like album closer 'Andro,' these slower tracks are a real disappointment, especially considering how masterfully Arca interspersed them with the more chaotic moments on KiCk i.
I can definitely see why people would love this, but to me, I just left with a feeling of disappointment. :(
