This new album is a bit of a roller-coaster, from unforgiving bangers like "BUZZCUT" to vibey soul inspired pop rap on "WINDOWS" this album jumps from idea to idea, and sadly while I absolutely love some tracks here, some songs here feel unrealized.
The features are generally good, Danny Brown brought his A-game, Peggy floated on the "CHAIN ON" beat, Rocky and Ferg gave some nice energy to "BANKROLL" and while it's not one of my favorites on the track list I liked their effort, SoGone SoFlexy is someone I haven't heard of before and honestly I wasn't that impressed with him, his verse was alright but really forgettable, Charlie Wilson is a great singer and was really nice on this, Baird was really forgettable didn't really add anything.
The production is quite good, the beats pop and the mix is overall very consistent, the beat on "CHAIN ON" for example is incredible, catchy, hard and fits perfectly for the boys and Peggy, I do wish the instrumentals on some of the lighter tracks were a bit more interesting and less forgettable, but the production is defiantly a high point on the record.
I still don't like "COUNT ON ME" at all, that song bores the hell out of me, the hook is weak, and I'm sorry but the singing is really unpleasant here.
"OLD NEWS " is my least favorite song here by far, firstly I really dislike the singing, the beat is the weakest on the record, and I hate being this nitpicky but couldn't they choose a better sounding clap? the sound design on the instrumental is really lacking.
The ending of this album was gorgeous, beautifully light and breezy, soulful and really tasteful, "DEAR LORD" legitimately got me emotional and is slowly turning into one of my favorite BROCKHAMPTON tracks period.
I'm not sure what's the next step for BROCKHAMPTON, but for now, all I can say is I did enjoy the album, and while I'm not loving it, it's surely a respectful piece of work that reaches wonderful highs, thanks for reading this 💚
