Now imagine me as a 16 year old stupid kid. I never listened to albums, I never really cared about artistic reasoning in music.
And there it was, Yung Lean, this goofy ass, chubby white rapper. A friend showed me 'gatorade', I didn't like it. But I was intrigued by this guy, so after a little youtube search I found Yoshi City, and I didn't knew what I heard, amazing melodies, production and overall style. So I searched for the album that this song was on, Unknown Memory, and started listening to it. And after a week of finding it just an odd album it started to make sense, a lot of sense. Never had I ever heard anything like this, music that was so different and yet so much fun to listen to.
Basically Yung Lean and his 'boys' are like a religion to me, I know they have their flaws but they have such a strong aestetic and direction in everything that I'd gladly be ignorant to these flaws. This album made me realize what art can do.
This the album and phenomenon I'll be telling my kids and their kids about.
