Hell fucking yes!! This is exactly what I want from metal. Vile Luxury is dizzying, intimidating, and above all else a fantastic explosion of passion. Sure the guitar could have used some extra oomph in the mix, but on all of my listens so far I quickly became accustomed to it.

If you need a specific example just listen to Chernobyl Blues: a slow and melacholy tune that sounds like the prologue to a Funeral Doom epic before bursting forth with the most cathartic death metal passage I've ever ... read more

I like to think of this album as the Portal (the metal group)of ambient. Portal's signature sound in execution does come off as a bunch of cavernous noise, but what makes it work is that they didn't take a particularly easy path to create that sound(at least from a technical standpoint). The noise is often a result of unrelenting blast beats and demonic growls drowned out by riff after riff. They could have easily stuck to a single passage to achieve the same result. async puts that idea to an ... read more

One of my favorite aspects about folk is the ambiance and what artists tend to do to translate their recordings into a perfect replication of the artist's surroundings. Opening this collection of thoughts with a quote is cheesy but it's necessary for context:

"Emma isn't a person. It's a place you get stuck in" - Justin Vernon

Applying this quote to the album itself has become a driving factor in me revisiting this album over the years. Other than that, why else? I've listened to it so much that it's practically become white noise. I've purchased a CD and a vinyl copy at this point. This thing has been a 10 and my favorite album that doesn't have ... read more

I'll go out on a limb and say that Life of Pablo is a more effective version of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. With no disrespect to that album(because I do love it), the flare and bombast of songs like Power and All of the Lights as well as the dramatized Runaway, while showcasing to great effect the idea of Kanye doubling down on his egotistic eccentricities, do present a key disconnect between himself and his audience. In a sense, the album as a whole feels more calculated and planned as ... read more
