AOTY 2023
NO NUANCE REVIEW

You guys are still doing this, huh?

You know, it’s okay if you want to do something else. Plenty of artists start doing a certain sound, grow out of it or exhaust every idea they possibly have, and then move onto something else. It’s perfectly fine, encouraged even. You know you don’t have keep making a xerox of a xerox of every other album you’ve done but worse, right? You can do something else.

this is fairly different from the last few albums

like name me an album by them it sounds like the entire way thru

@ImplicitDoom I mean yeah it doesn’t sound exactly like a specific album the entire way through, but this is essentially just the same bland, watered down, uninspired alt-metal they’ve been doing for a while now while not having the exciting qualities that made their earliest material so memorable

so it’s not fair to say it sounds like every album they’ve done

@implicitdoom Yeah but that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying they weren’t bringing any new ideas to the table, that they were just rehashing ideas and they’ve done before on previous records and, in my opinion, that it was leading to worse results. I’m not saying they’re pulling an AC/DC but just because they’re not literally sounding exactly the same as one album from top to bottom doesn’t mean they’re not pulling from the same big of tricks they’ve been doing, and I don’t think that’s unfair to say.

I think this is why better when they tried something new in the form of dubstep. It adds a fresh new korn and pays homage to korns older more brutal stuff without trying to force it. they try different, lower tuned, riffs compared to their previous album, the nothing, but still move away from the vocal style of that album. It feel like it hits the korn fell more then their previous two albums the nothing and TSOS. I does something that those 2 albums can't.
