Samurai by Lupe Fiasco is a lyrically focused album that mixes catchy jazz soundtracks by, well, Soundtrakk, with mountains of internal and other rhymes. In certain tracks, such as ‘Til Eternity, Lupe seems to say things that sometimes appear to be purely to rhyme with other lines. This theme is present in other tracks as well, but mostly, the lyrics of this album have a reason to them and snappy rhymes you can’t get enough of.
Let God Sort ‘Em Out by Clipse is an album that brings Pusha T’s iconic coke raps and Malice’s street stories into one concise project. While some songs may wear off their charm after a listen or two, other songs like Chains & Whips, P.O.V., and F.I.C.O. will put a tune in your head that you can’t and don’t want to get out. Magic, Alive! by McKinley Dixon may have some bad moments, such as the end of Recitatif with Teller Bank$ as a feature, but otherwise this album is great. It mixes in both emotional heartfelt lyrics with upbeat raps that keep you coming back. As one of my favorite albums of this year, and my most played on Spotify, this an album that will permanently stick with me.
