I randomly stumbled upon another obscure band and decided to check them out because they were recommended for fans of Spiderland. I wrote down my first reactions and kept the most notable thoughts.

Flood the Pain: Immediately, this is freaky. The weird vocal effect and disturbing chords are pretty unsettling. Seems to end abruptly, though.

I'm Sedated: Some of these tension-building techniques are definitely reminiscent of Slint. The vocalist has a neat inflection which is different. Neither ... read more

Pretty weird album! I like the punk vocals, there are lots of catchy melodies, but I don't like the occasional screamo. They're a harsh contrast to the sung(ish) clean vocals and they jar me every time. The songs I liked, I REALLY liked, while most everything else I didn't feel very strongly about. I probably need more listens, but I definitely enjoyed it overall.

Favorite Tracks: "Sneaky Devil", "Kiss My Super Bowl Ring", "AMPM Truck", "Hit Eject"

I preferred the shoegazey tracks over the straight metalcore songs on this album, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of these screamed vocals. I actually enjoyed the interludes a bit and there are some cool riffs here and there, but I probably won't come back to this. I will say, though, that "Red Room" is one of the most intense things I've heard in a while. Like, damn.

The guitars on this album are fucking enormous. A lot of the songs here remind me of Daughters' self-titled record only bigger and doomier. I didn't expect to like this as much as I did! My main negative is that I don't think I understood a single word that was said, but the overall sound is everything.

Edit: Yup, I think I love this. Instrumentally, this is Daughters if Daughters made sludge metal. The sound of this album is crushing and intense with plenty of terrifying riffs. I still don't ... read more

Edit: Whoa, I keep coming back to it.

Someone mentioned this album on Reddit and I randomly checked it out: I'm kind of shocked this isn't very well-known. This is pretty epic prog-rock with elements of post-rock and metal. The songs are long as hell which I usually don't like (I'm fairly impatient), but this managed to hold my interest. I especially like the vocals, they kind of remind me of the vocalist for Dream Theater. Like that band, a lot of the songs here go through a lot of ideas, but ... read more

I mostly listen to rock and have yet to really get into hip-hop, but I'm attempting to broaden my horizons in the search for new music.
