Excuse me? An actual Foo Fighters album I liked? Is this the end of times? Do I need to go and kiss my mom? (After this album I definitely feel like it).

I've never been the biggest Foo Fighters fan to be honest, Never really cared about their music and of course the only song I do care from them is Everlong, Its a classic, A fantastic song. But other then that specific song I thought that the rest of the album is quite overrated and underwhelming. So I came into this one with mixed expectations, But yup, Its probably their best album to date.

The band's former drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away last year, Along with Dave Grohl’s mother Virginia. So it has been a tough year for Dave and the band, And this album is a goodbye and a way for the band to express their emotions and grief. Now I will critic the album but I want to say I really hope that Dave and the band are doing well now, I cant even imagine how hard it is to lose two of the closest people to you in the same year.

I will actually start with the negatives and then move on to the positives. Firstly, I felt like some of the songs are very underwhelming compared to others, There are several lows throughout the tracklist that I didn't really care about, Among Rescued, The Glass and Beyond Me which is an overdramatic bland balled with corny clichés and ideas. I'm also not a big fan of some of the writing on the first half of the album, Even if the subject matters of these songs are meaningful, It doesn't mean they are good, I found some of the lyrics to be very cheesy and bland, To the point that at time it seems like it was written by an AI generated told to write songs about loss and grief, I might be exaggerating but this is what I felt like.

Now for the positives. The band expressed their raw emotions very affectively on this project and I think that this is the most important thing. You can really hear how much heart they poured into this album, And it mostly paid off. Dave's performances here are absolutely incredible, He is extremely passionate throughout the whole album, And I believed every word that came out of his mouth, Even if I think the lyrics on certain tracks are not great. His delivery is very versatile, He is screaming, Whispering, Singing and at times it sounds like he is almost crying. He was insanely engaging, I really cant praise him enough. The production is Amazing as well on most of the songs, Even though it could get slightly uninteresting on tracks like Beyond Me and Nothing At All. However the instruments sounds immaculate and the mixing is very tight and sharp.

I feel like the last leg of the album is the strongest one, From the song Show Me How until the end, With the exception of Beyond Me. Show Me How is a magnificent song that blends elements of shoegaze and dream pop, About the passing of Dave's mother, Its also features vocals from Dave's daughter Violet, Got me pretty damn emotional. Talking about emotional, The last track of the album "Rest" is the best Foo Fighters track ever, Yes, Even better then the legendary Everlong, Easily a contender for song of the year for me. The shoegazie climax at the end is heartbreaking, The lyrics are touching, Dave's melancholic delivery is phenomenal, A perfect song.

But Here We Are is a very important milestone in the the band's discography, Its their most mature album in my opinion, And even if its not the most consistent thing ever, I must say I enjoyed it quite a bit. Rip Taylor Hawkins and Virginia Grohl.

Favorite: But Here We Are, Hearing Voices, Show Me How, The Teacher, Rest
Least favorite: Beyond Me
