Kendrick Lamar - GNX

MUUUUUSTARDDDD
--------------------------------
This man's versatility knows no bounds and he done gave us west coast BANGERS. Love how unapologetic he is against the industry and goes out his way to proclaim his crown. The energy here is immaculate and has a good amount of mainstream hits in the making but also a dud or two that trail off and take the backseat. My enjoyment overall is satisfactory and I'll have a couple of these on ... read more

070 Shake - Petrichor

Danielle Balbuena aka 070 Shake has a significance to her art style that creates a clear division in the pop scene. There are quite a few hidden gems within her discography and now we see what she has to offer with this new LP. When touching on the soundscape, I feel that Danielle moves full force with the quality in mixing, use of synths, guitar, and harmonizing vocal layers.

Now the intro track sets up the chilling atmosphere, with a good representation of instrumentals coinciding with ... read more

Drake - Scorpion

Unnecessarily bloated and reeks of mediocrity. It's just boring mall music, radio friendly pop that doesn't do much justice for the genre.

Linkin Park - From Zero
40

Linkin Park brings back outdated rock, sometimes it works sometimes it does not. As solid as the rock performances might be, rock has evolved and so this LP feels somewhat predictable and stale. Rap rock has never been my favorite but I can stand it if it's good enough. The rapping here is pretty mediocre at best, so I can't give much brownie points there either. It's 2024 and the bar for rock has been heightened repeatedly, this album isn't exactly near that bar. Pretty ... read more

Shaboozey - Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going

Over dramatized country pop. I can't say that the grand production does much for the writing here sadly.

Porter Robinson - Nurture

This album is like running through an open grass field with your friends and pet dog.
This album is like reaching the end of a treacherous journey and realizing the true goal was the friends made.
This album is like if marshmello was actually creative.
This album is the definition of Jolly.

I love this album ngl.

Poppy - Negative Spaces

(This you?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpCXxqiTjqE

She got it bro.. This SLAPS! I remember her creepy youtube video days where her only skill was making people uncomfortable. It is so refreshing to see Poppy thrive in her natural habitat of Metalcore while dabbling with pop elements. She's been running 2024 by storm since her feature with Knocked Loose, only raising the bar even higher with the release of this record.

Poppy kicks things off in an abrasive manner using killer ... read more

Remy Bond - Red White and Blue

Recently put on to Remy and already think she's got a lot to prove. Leaving this review here to give her a quick shoutout, the recognition is deserved. While her sound is still pretty underdeveloped, I do like the oldie vibe while keeping a modern pop sound overall. A bit like Lana but with time I hope she continues to push newfound creativity and pave her own path.

SZA - SOS
70

As SZA may have set the bar quite high with CTRL, her sophomore LP still has a fair share of highlights. Although SOS isn't as grand or as meticulously crafted as CTRL, the energy here is a bit more loose and fun. Nothing to dive too deep into, just some enjoyable cuts for the playlist. This project would thrive a bit more if it wasn't as bloated in my opinion.

Juice WRLD - AGATS2 (Insecure)

This is the epitome of beating a dead horse. What a lazy cash grab..

Cordae - The Crossroads
70

Cordae continues to show so much promise, I'd say this is a bit more consistent than the lost boy.

After the mediocre tragedy that was 'Bird's Eye View', Cordae needed to gather himself and grab the crowds attention again. Crossroads gives us more perspective on his character and surrounding life while also throwing in classic, performance focused tracks. It's great to see how he's improving in production choices, the beats have great laidback hip hop vibes and ... read more

Corey Feldman - Angelic 2 the Core

300TH REVIEW!!! I decided if I was gonna celebrate my 300th review it had to be special. Something no one would ever expect.. So lets talk about the embarrassment that is COREY FELDMAN. He's seriously garbage I mean what else is there to say, the guy sounds like a drunk 50 year old man trying to do Pitbull karaoke. So putting Corey aside I want to express my appreciation for the support as I continue to live chronically online reviewing and rating. Let Corey Feldman serve as an example ... read more

Denzel Curry - GOT ME GEEKED

Denzel traversing into R&B territory?! What a year.

Ab-Soul - Soul Burger

9 MILE?? Close enough, welcome back Slim Shady :)

Ab-Soul feels messy here. A lot of poorly executed ideas, some songs end up either underwhelming or lacking in content. Ab-Soul manages to salvage pieces when digging into his rap bag and giving energetic performance. You have moments where the lyrical prowess is undercooked in it's endeavors, and moments where the message isn't reaching me the way Herbert wants it to. Certain features feel forgettable, some ideas fall flat, and ... read more

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs

Some of the most fun hyper pop has to offer right behind Underscore's Wallsocket. The rock aspect is so so so dignifying and just satisfying to the core. At first I felt a bit frightened and unsure of how to feel about what I was hearing. However, the enjoyment comes from taking this album lightly. It's much more digestible and comfortable in sound compared to the debut they released. I dance nonstop to the first three tracks, it's an insane track run. Some ideas feel a bit flat, ... read more

100 gecs - 1000 gecs

Not a big fan of their debut, but this was a good stepping stone for the advancements made later on their Sophomore LP. Brady and Laura shine a pretty good light on the hyper pop genre, bringing about a unique feel to it. Sometimes it works in their favor but other times I'm a bit underwhelmed and annoyed.

Freddie Gibbs - You Only Die 1nce
70

Comparatively to Alfredo and Pinata, Freddie doesn't hold much of a candle here. I appreciate some of the performances but I can't find what makes this album stand out. The beat selection is above adequate and the lyricism still holds but doesn't gravitate as much, I can go through this LP and move about my day without feeling the pressure to listen again. I will say even when Freddie doesn't go ultra instinct mode he still drops good projects and that speaks volumes. The ... read more

underscores - Wallsocket

I have an addiction to this album. This is as fun as hyper pop can get, so much life and creativity gone into each track. The intro alone starts off with such a fun care free energy that infects me with positivity. I sing along to just about every track I come across.

"Cuz the writing is unbearably horrendous lmao. How could you possibly take her seriously? She tries so hard to create a serious atmosphere with thought provoking undertones but ends up writing some seriously goofy shit. I can drop multiple lines from almost every song that are super cringe."

"@Bandia If I don't mention a song sometimes it may mean that I don't really feel much for it therefore I don't have anything to really speak on but I can understand where you're coming from. I see the appeal, both picnic in paris and stargazing have great vocal performances I don't mind plus the atmosphere is very soothing. However they just don't stand out too much compared to the higher highs he's had on the album in my opinion but that's personal taste."
