Yeah, nvm this is better than Thank U, Next. I still think that album is a very high 9 but this is just simply better.
Despite being a 32 song album, it doesn’t feel like one. It doesn’t feel like you’re sitting in your empty room for over an hour and a half, you feel the chills on your bones. Except it’s multiplied by around 200 times because of simply how powerful her voice is. The varying production shines even brighter with the live setting. I’m convinced she hacked my brain because all of these songs are in my top 50 Ariana songs. Nothing fizzes out at the end, it’s all consistent as hell and i regularly listen to this over the studio version.
The way she adapted so many of her new punchlines like “yuh” and “ay” are obviously from Mac’s influence on her. Thank U, Next (the song) is among my favorite songs of all time. I’m not trying to be a cringey fangirl, but this is my second favorite live album of all time. And yes, I have heard the Fishman one. Ariana Grande, despite being mainstream is my personal favorite vocalist of the 2010’s. It’s fun seeing her perform her older hits, and it just shows the evolution of her as an artist and as a person. The way thank u next (once again the song) is last in the tracklisting just hits like a truck. Everything from the pop/Pharrell/trap/edm production complements her in each song and just sounds pleasant to the ear.
The other thing I appreciate on here is the evolution of her songwriting. She went from cheesy ballads that were all excluded from this album besides the great cuts like “right there”. Her cuts from sweetener are much more mature and refined but the old stuff is simply nostalgic to me. Side to Side was one of the first songs I learned word for word, to the dismay of my parents. Of course, I don’t listen to this whole album in full very often, but when I do it’s a magical experience, I wouldn’t say that unless I meant it.
I’m going to rank all these songs.
