This record is so confusing but I like it for the most part. It's honestly hard to call this album "bloated" because of how all over the place it is.
I like the unconventional structuring of the songs, but I do find some of the themes discussed to be a bit cliche.
Yeah, it's incel-core, but it's done right. There's just the right amount of nerdiness and creative storytelling within each track that I find even the somewhat mysogynistic themes to be useful in the development of the character (or characters?) sung about on this record.
The depravity is so in your face but in the best way possible. The way this album progresses with its loud instrumentals and eerie noises also adds a lot to the storytelling.
The biggest offense of this record is that it's mostly boring and generic. There are definitely some cringe moments but it's not the most overbearing thing ever. Creep still slaps though.
Excellently executed darkwave with some of the most sticky synthpop ever made.
So fun, creative, and silly, yet can be very thought-provoking at times. Just good vibes all around.
The most out-there and exciting pop you will ever hear from the 80s.
The fact that a record can run this long and not feel overbearing or boring in the slightest is incredible.
Very well produced and written. In comparison to "Rumors", there are some more noticeable dry spots in the second half of the record.
The layers to the storytelling on this record is mind-blowing. Of course only Bowie could make an album about an extraterrestrial rockstar, but also there's a lot of truths revealed about Bowie himself and his impact on his fans that I don't believe many people pick up on their first few listens. Not to mention "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" might be the best closer to an album ever.
Idc the riffs on this record go hard. "Sheep" might just be Pink Floyd's most epic song ever.
Mainstream folk-rock doesn't sound like something that would be appealing, but this record is completely timeless. The production is so crisp, and the instrumentation/singing is still incredible by today's standards.
