I had an idea for what to write about for this one, and I've lost it. Most of the time I come into these with a general idea for what to write, the main problem is normally just figuring out how to frame it with the music behind the review. It was a good idea too. I was excited to write it. Things pass. If you drop a coin in the dark fog, don't expect to find it. Honestly, dark fog in general is pretty cool. I love fog. It's really fascinating to see your world through just a completely ... read more
Speak of the detuned devil. This one's flat instead of sharp. Flats normally sound a lot more accidental (heh) to me than sharps, probably because detuned things generally tend to end up further towards the flatter side of things. I'm not actually sure what exact emotion they have to me, especially when placed against other standardly tuned things. There's like a sunset over a sky that looks blue. That's nonsense, but I think it characterizes this pretty well. I'm not even sure what ... read more
Interruptions are a part of this review-cycle, apparently. Anyways, voice is a lot more like violin than piano. I'm enjoying the singing a bit more as I continue these listening things. There's a lot of joy in listening to someone just kind of throw notes out into the air. There's a joy in doing it yourself as well. I love singing. And I think this series is kind of showing me that piano and voice are quite far apart. I was in piano lessons for a bit when I was younger. I liked piano, I just hated practicing (thus is the plight of any tedium-hating 7 year old). So I kind of associated most ... read more
Taking breaks is important, I'm figuring out. It's been about a week since I wrote the previous of these, and I am coming back to a realization that I have not retained any of the content from these songs. Though the Bandcamp descriptions for Marginalia describes them as "daily," I'm starting to understand why that's not really the case. Burnout is a hard thing to kill. I'm in the process of punching through the last few weeks of school, and I'm about ready to quit. That's kind ... read more
