This is the most complete album that I have ever listened.
It got songs to cry, to dance, to be happy, to learn, to everything; and I wouldn't think it worked so great and still so cohesively as an album, but Sufjan did surpass my expectations.
With INCREDIBLE instrumentals, INCREDIBLE soundscapes and some of the best lyrical/instrumental synergies I've ever listened, this album feels like being on a tour bus onto Sufjan's life and he, being the charming host to get me onto all of these ... read more
I can appreciate how masterful of an album this was for its time, but it really didn't age well for me. It feels so simple, rough and awkward sounding at sorts that I've never came back to this album.
This got to me a kind of a "The Beatles" factor, that I just know that is so important for music in general, but I can't enjoy it as a music art form. So you would expect what do I think about The Beatles if you got to ask me about it.
100 for being such an important album for ... read more
This is one of the finest "IDM" albums that my ears had the pleasure to listen. Is such a hard nostalgia hit that works so nicely, and give me some of the most comforting feelings while listening an album.
But is not perfect, though. Still pretty amazing.
Highlights: An Eagle In Your Mind, Sixtyten, Roygbiv, Pete Standing Alone, Open The Light.
Who is "The Microphones" and why am I crying so damn loud in the corner after this listen?
Out of jokes, this album... Was an experience of mind-blowing creativity and incredible soundscapes, stories and huge emotional peaks that, to be honest, compliments all of this album so perfectly.
Starting from the gorgeous acoustic ballads (You'll be In The Air, I Felt Your Size, I Want Wind To Blow) that portrays Phil in many situations, comparisons, emotions and pure organic bliss of ... read more
No, the ambient part isn't that long, and compliments the whole progression of the album really nicely.
Best Swans record period.
This is the most unique, varied, raw and difficult album from them, giving such an awkward feel on all of the tracks, with such a twisted mix of everything... Is beautiful. Is gorgeous. Is perfect.
At my first listen, I was blown away, but didn't know how to feel at all. I was certainly confused, loving and hating half of the tracks, but feeling that it really works but I was so dumb to perceive it.
Given 3 listens, I was clear that this was the best from them, ... read more
This one is great also, but for me, it's not as consistent and focused as their predecessors, giving it a confusing listen at sorts, but is still GYBE, they still sound really good.
Their production is stellar, instrumental work also, everything feels dense and complete, yet kind of clueless.
Highlights: Motherfucker=redeemer (1 and 2).
This terrifies me so much, yet is so cleverly put together and lyrically dense, rich, full of hidden emotions and hidden chant that it just... Blows you away. God. What an album dude.
Trying to deconstruct this album is an adventure, as dark as being in a hard, deep nightmare full of depression, emotion, terror and confusion. This album, in one word, I could say "confusing". It really gets all of those emotional despairs in the most unexpected and bizarre ways to bring them in a ... read more
I love how his execution in this album with household items, great melodics and a few electronics make this album a set of some of the best chill beats on this decade. This man really knew how to convert those sounds into a consistently soothing beat that got a lot of layers, a lot of intricacy and simplicity at the same time. This guy.
Highlights: Places, Parties, Your Stupid Face, Sink, Same Time.
Oh. I went into this unaware of what I would enter to, someone just told me "go listen to this, is great", and I did.
wow
All of this just... Works. All of this makes entire sense. All of this is so well executed and I love it dude, I love how emotionally driving and heavy this album is. The vocals are incredibly great, the production is great, the whole thing is great.
Highlights: DON'T THINK I DID NOT HEAR YOU COMING COME, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYEEEEEEEEE
GYBE is good, this album is the best example of it.
Perfect textures, production, layering, mixing, soundstage approach, ambience, execution, originality, enjoyability, what the fuck are you doing if you've never listened to this album. I OBLIGUE YOU TO LISTEN THIS MASTERPIECEEEEEEEE
this is the best record from them, LYSFLATH is amazing but... This just takes you to another emotional peak on East Hastings, such a perfect song and for me, the best of them. That monologue adds to that song ... read more
Oh well, this album is amazing and so well layered, mixed, textured, executed, put together and is such a bless. God damn this is a masterpiece.
At first, it got me impressed, but I didn't love it at first listen as a whole. Then it played again and I just... I want this in my life, is precious.
Starting with how it immerses you to a full extent on its whole hour and a half full of anything that you could imagine in an instrumental record: intense moments, alluring moments, amazing execution ... read more
My explanation to why is this a perfect score, is because of how effective it is to achieve such a disorienting and demented album onto nothingness. It's the most depressing, panicking and worrisome album I've ever heard.
And look, my only explanation is my experience, so take a seat and look.
First stage is easy-going, just 40-ish minutes of slow, looped music on a raw vinyl aesthetic, but shit gets worse real quick on each stage. On the second stage, I got this melancholic attack that made ... read more
This is the most amazing Bowie's project and ima stand in that position.
He just made an amazing work of experimental/art rock with ambient takes that even up to this date are so unique and groundbreaking, also with amazing production quality, great consistency and variation, and one of the best rock albums I've heard up to this date.
And I also love that it has the best of both parts: a first half full of great takes on electronics and organics flowing together as one, giving a flawless ... read more
GOD. THIS IS NOT GOOD, IT'S PERFECT.
Art rock at its finest, mixed with such soothing electronic/ambient music and even pop to give a really fun, flawless experience with incredible production quality, immaculate talent from the genius that is Brian Eno, even better execution and being such a groundbreaking album for that time, this man got his standpoint as one of the best artista ever (and mainly with this album for me).
Highlights: this album as a whole is perfect, everything is a ... read more
This review is really short, like, stupid short.
This is the most ambient you can get, and is the start of such an amazing genre that is ambient. Brian Eno, you really are a genius.
Highlights: is ambient.
