Caribou - Suddenly
74

Caribou takes a slight turn on deep house and indietronica, arriving with a nice electronic album once again.

With a different set of sounds that derives from the last LP, "Our Love", a set of varied and either groovy or chill songs that connects really good from one to another, and a warmer production on this one, it sure makes this album a nice listen.

But man, this album would be an easy 80 if Lime was not a thing. Is kind of a disaster of a track, to be honest, and ruins the ... read more

Bonobo - Black Sands
82

What an intricate electronic album.

It feels so organic and natural being an almost completely synthetic work. The whole album is a set of chill pieces with some oriental take on all of these songs and, most importantly, how detailed and big all of these songs are, mixing them in such an intricate way and getting a constant flow from start to end like butter.

And also, is relatively ambiental and chill, so it blends with whatever you're doing perfectly to get that calm state of mind you would ... read more

Yves Tumor - Heaven to a Tortured Mind
85

This album took me a lot by surprise for not listening to more of Yves Tumor's works, but this is a really good album that mixes rock with soul, and brings some of the most interesting ideas I've listened this year.

Starting with what I enjoyed a bit less, the production, it got a raw quality without being voluptuous or huge; in fact, it sounded a bit plain for me, but nothing that can make me enjoy this album like I enjoyed it.

About the rest of the elements, the intricate melodies with a ... read more

Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
88

This is a great piece of what Baroque Pop has got to us in this time, and it's certainly wonderful.

This album includes immaculate and grand production, a great variety of instrumental pieces and synthetic takes on every song, and emotionally beautiful lyrics. This album takes some of the most interesting ideas in this type of music, making a really great and engaging sound. Really great stuff.

Highlights: Movies, Andromeda, Something To Believe, A Lot's Gonna Change, Picture Me Better.

black midi - Schlagenheim
90

This album is a weirdness powerhouse.

Mixing the disturbing vocal performances, the noisy instrumental and the great pacing from the album is such a great work for this debut to show what this band is capable about.

It mixes elements from math rock, noise rock and post punk to make an unique piece of music that consists of some of the most demented music of the year. Is amazing, man, and "bmbmbm" is such a great break down into madness.

Highlights: bmbmbm, Western, Speedway, 953, ... read more

Bon Iver - 22, A Million
93

This album is the most experimental project from Bon Iver, but man... He makes this weirdness to shine in such a dark and engaging way.

With the off kilter production and instrumentals that emphasize on a set of odd synthetic/organic mixes that work on a really interesting way, but the magic starts when this whole thing connects with the lyrics.

Sounding so unfamiliar from Bon Iver, it has the same element of imagination that "Bon Iver" has got on its lyrics, but this time is ... read more

Corey Feldman - Angelic 2 the Core

Yo look, is grandpa Skrillex doing cheap funk, rock and jazz music and an awful Michael Jackson impersonation! No, really, this is what this album is... And also he's flirting with some (pornstars) angels in some weird skits. Ew

Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
97

This is the best noise rock album I've heard up to this date. So terrifying, manic and amazing it makes me lose my mind of how amazing this album is.

With a great production that brings all of these terrific takes on noise and the guitars screaming in agony on the front part of the soundstage to hit you so hard, yet being really detailed in some sorts that makes this so fucking great.

And the vocals... Oh man, the vocals. So emotionally driven to the point that you feel he's losing his ... read more

Black Milk - If There's A Hell Below
83

Solid record with such a classic feeling to it and amazing beats and lyricism all over the place.

With such a minimal production to get the focus on the lyrics, it works really well considering all of the tracks presents a lowkey production quality, with nice instrumentals and sample uses from start to finish, and really amazing bars and even a story told from the artist covering the rest of the songs, really good work.

Highlights: Everyday Was, What It's Worth, Story And Her, All Mighty, ... read more

Radiohead - Kid A
98

This is Radiohead making a great transition from the great OK Computer to a whole new realm for the band.

This album takes the most ambitious ideas on the plate and makes them all on this surreal and experimental take, with a lot more electronics and IDM inspirations on "Kid A" and "Idioteque", the surreal and incredibly perfect "How To Disappear Completely" and a more organic touch on "The National Anthem". This album is the most adventurous from the ... read more

Radiohead - OK Computer
100

Radiohead makes a whole 180 on their style from the punk-based music on their first two record to, maybe, one of the best records ever made.

Including a trascendental production that makes this whole thing feel so huge, but are just 4 guys on a studio; the amazing instrumental work on every song to make it feel so alien and futuristic, yet so organic and pure; the amazing, surreal lyricism and a whole cohesive work from start to finish; this album really does make a standpoint on Radiohead's ... read more

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
93

This album maybe is not as great as Fleet Foxes, but it's still an excellent folk record all around.

It got the same components of a grand instrumental work and huge production, with great vocals and lyricism that works so great for this band's style and music, making such an engaging sonic/lyric listen.

I won't repeat myself too much on this because is as big as the GREAT self-titled.

Highlights: Helplessness Blues, Sim Sala Bim, The Shrine/An Argument, Montezuma, The Plain/Bitter Dancer.

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
98

Fleet Foxes is so beautiful.

This album is one of the best folk albums ever made, with such a grandiose production, engaging melodics and lyrics and a great experience from start to finish, this album is magnificent.

It got a really good start with White Winter Hymnal and Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, but... The last tracks... Especially Blue Ridge Mountains... Are the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever listened to, they've got such a buildup it's almost unbeatable.

Highlights: Blue ... read more

Flume - Hi This Is Flume
81

Great experimental project from the boy Flume, getting a more ambitious sound and interesting ideas on each of these tracks that transition from one to another like butter.

With a lot of ideas that he got up his sleeve, he bring the sauce in each track and all of them are good. With this characteristic Flume production with a slight edge comparing to some of his previous projects, a WIDE variety of sounds.

From experimental hip hop on "How To Build A Relationship", that got some of ... read more

Tim Hecker - Harmony in Ultraviolet
94

This man sure knows how to make some fucking good ambient music.

This, being his 4th album, refines its sound to excellence and brings a fresh, inmersive and great ambient record. With such inmersive tracks and huge transitions from a calm and soothing sound to a somewhat terrifying and dark ambience, this man sure does know how to make you get in the edge of your seat with... Ambient... That is something so fucking hard.

Highlights: all of them are so amazing, but... Harmony In Blue man...

Charli xcx - how i'm feeling now
84

Dude, Charli comes with a one-month project and hits it HARD. Full of bangers and full of body, she does a great work on a really good pop album... Again.

Making a futuristic/experimental take on pop and getting a magnificent production quality, Charli delivers one of the freshest pop albums to date, making a great predecessor from "Charli" and just proving again that she's the sound of pop for this decade. Great work though.

Highlights: pink diamond, forever, claws, i finally ... read more

Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
91

Heyyyy, this album is so great man.

Starting from the production coming from Flume and others, this works so great adding to Vince's great flow and glitchy/hard hitting beats that adds up to the melody of the whole thing. It sure is a great one and maybe the best Vince project to date.

Highlights: Big Fish, 745, Yeah Right, SAMO, BagBak.

Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately
92

I'm not gay... But um... I wouldn't be mad if someone gets to sing me this... This is just so fucking pretty.

I love how uniquely engaging the whole sound of the album is, the immaculate instrumental work, the singing sounds so delicate and strong at the same time with this amaaaaaaazing lyric work... Perfume just made himself on this album.

And I love each time I listen to this album (I repeated it at least 3 times), I can find something new about the narrative of this album, and is even ... read more

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
95

One of the best plunderphonics albums I've ever heard. It's so huge yet so refined for a project of this caliber. It sure sounds huge and magical, with a lot of samples put in this album to flow like butter from start to finish and to get all of the songs to transition from one to another so perfectly... Wow.

Highlights: don't give me this headache, all of them are so amazing :(

Burial - Untrue
99

This is just a fucking classic. Burial is the only mankind that revolutionizes underground electronic music with a stock audio editor, and sounding so amaaaaazing.

Taking from sounds recorded from everyday use, videogame soundtracks (specially Metal Gear Solid) and sound clips from objects or actions, vocal samples and other stuff, it really shows how talented and clever this man is.

It also has a lot of characteristics that make this so unique from a general perspective from the sound of ... read more
