Listening to a new album every day - Day 4 - Boards of Canada - Inferno
I don't really want to write a proper review for this because I don't feel qualified to describe this music and dissect it to its fullest. This is my first time listening to Boards of Canada, and this might be the weirdest album I have ever listened to in my life... yet it somehow pieces together so nicely to where it's hard to critique it. Definitely an album worth listening to, as it is an experience so ... read more
Listening to a new album every day - Day 3 - Kim Petras - Detour
Happy pride month! I was expecting this album to be a blast, and I kind of got that within a handful of the tracks here, but sometimes it switched up between some house and some classic pop flavors, which I did enjoy each to some degree, just some felt a bit basic and not necessarily doing much to make it stand out amongst the fantastic elements of the tracklist. This album definitely has the diva energy that it wanted to bring, ... read more
Listening to a new album every day - Day 2 - Genesis Owusu - REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE
I quite thoroughly enjoyed this album for a majority of its duration. There are some chips in the production factor where it seems to be a bit lackluster and could use a bit more. However, the blends of neo soul, hip hop and even dance and punk really create a nice flavor for the album. The consciousness of some tracks, especially The Worldwide Scourge, definitely create a dystopian society out ... read more
Listening to a new album every day - Day 1 - khel - real girl rockstar
Run of the mill rage album to me, nothing especially stands out here besides a couple tracks near the back end of the list where the production steps up a few notches. Things feel very samey production wise and the vocals feel quite drained out by the instrumentals. However, I do quite like when the album tones it down and focuses more primarily on the vocals, while still keeping the instrumentals fresh. Other than that ... read more
I will admit, I did kind of turn a blind eye to this album. While yes, nothing particularly interesting or for the books comes with this record, I definitely had that hating bone in my body for Ye's work in recent years, which is completely valid. I went into this looking for growth from Kanye, but never delved too deep into the backbone of what holds this album together. Unfortunately my main problem with this album is that it feels too derivative, taking inspirations from his old sounds ... read more
New up-and-coming singer, songwriter and producer sombr comes out the gate with a very strong start. Consistent all the way through with some noticeable switch ups in sound to make the listen stay engaging. Although the production can be a little harsh in some of the moments on the record, the soundscapes of this album are pretty unique for a new artist of the caliber that sombr has been put into. Overall this album doesn't necessarily have issues when it comes to having any duds, but it ... read more
A pretty mixed bag from indie rock/folk band Wednesday that has really strong points. The production on the entire album is fairly consistent. The vocal chops can be a little grating at points but it fits well with the general progression on tracks like "Reality TV Argument Bleeds" and "Pick Up That Knife". Songwriting is very odd and sometimes a bit complex, but I don't think it hinders the album's overall experience nearly as much as the more generic and weaker ... read more
Each track is an EDM banger, but it has its own particular sound that I really enjoy for the most part. Each track is fresh and keeps you engaged. Nothing but booming bass and high energy. The album is knitted into one very cohesive and flowing package. Overall just a great time and an amazing album experience from start to finish. The lows aren't very low either; songs like Sing Good are unique, but don't really have the flare to be as memorable to me. Super cute, super lyrically ... read more
Would've given it somewhere in the 40s range, as it is some very bland indie pop with barely any memorable qualities to each track, but a pedophile doesn't deserve such a rating. Sorry!
Very inconsistent project from Frost Children that shines in its very intense strengths but has its fair share of weaknesses. Nostalgic in its own right, it does a great job of recreating 2010s EDM except it doesn't necessarily have the flare to have its own identity. However, that doesn't mean it doesn't have its strong tracks. There is just enough variety to keep the whole album from going stale, but there's a lot of repetitive nature from track to track. Overall, not the ... read more
Came into this expecting album of the year, that's exactly what you get. Perfect genre blending and atmosphere in this music. Lyrical content is wealthy, songs don't feel like they drag despite the length of some of them. Simply some amazing rock, jazz and some rap in the mix as well. You can't deny the production is astounding, and it creates one of the most powerful listens of any album I've heard in the past decade. Truly a record for the books.
They're so fucking back. Never thought I would hear something even close to up to par with trench, and even though this may be far from it, this is definitely some of the most well executed blend of past sounds I've heard, and it lives up to the hope I had for it. Although some songs are odd and the track list isn't super coherent at points, I think it does a damn good job at what it does right.
"You ain't gotta lie we can smell the ozempic" ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Here it is! The very not-so-highly anticipated album from Tyler, which got a lot of hype ever since it was announced. Honestly I was excited, but had pretty low expectations for an album that didn't seem to take long to craft. However, I knew he had to have something up his sleeve that would be like no other. And boy was I right.
Man was this a ride from start to finish. Every track from the beginning to the end felt ... read more
This album from Porter is definitely a step in the right direction in my opinion. I wanted to give a brief review of this because I genuinely think that this is one of the best produced albums as of late. It's focused, it's hyper, it's emotional, you go through a lot with this album. Porter's ability to create insanely versatile soundscapes is super impressive. This album contains explosive synthpop tracks, notably the first three in the tracklist, paired with other songs ... read more
Its so bad. All that needs to be said, don't feel like analyzing it. Bells is pretty good though and Peanuts 2 N Elephant gave me a good laugh but thats the only redeeming qualities here.
FAVORITE TRACKS: Peanuts 2 N Elephant, Bells, Peanuts 2 N Elephant, Peanuts 2 N Elephant, Island In The Sun
LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS: Island Holiday, If I Played Guitar, Alone In The Studio With My Gun, Rari, Welcome to Tha Carter (fuck AI)
Pretty underwhelming album from Marina. The production varies from some electro pop to orchestral pop, but it never really sticks the landing sonically. Every instrumental is pretty run of the mill with what it has to offer. Some tracks may go against the grain which I am very appreciative of, though. Vocals are sometimes botching parts of the record, but for the most part her singing isn't what makes this record not as enjoyable as it could have been. It's more of there being tons of ... read more
It's raw.
Death Grips have always been some sort of a mystery to me, and I never really listened to them until last year, where I was pretty much blown away by this record right here, The Money Store. This album wasn't an introduction to what Death Grips had to offer in terms of their sound, but after Exmilitary it showed the best genre blending and showing of industrial hop to date. Every track is dense and full of noise, but they all connect to make a cohesive, yet messy sounding ... read more
Wanna hug my mom rn
Chromakopia serves as some sort of personal magnum opus for Tyler. The attention to detail in the songwriting combined with the sentiment of the album as a whole creates a super sensitive, up and down rollercoaster of an experience that Tyler crafts behind the idea of masks, and the use of voice clips from his mom to convey moments and quotes that contributed to his life on a major scale. You can also definitely tell the improvement of the production styles and ... read more
Never heard crazy shit like this before, only Jane Remover be the type to do it.
Keeping the review very brief here. Jane has always been dabbling in other genres from record to record, now at this point in Revengeseekerz, Jane turns their focus to rap and rage, whilst also keeping their personal touch of noisy rock and pop in their music that truly makes it stand out. You can definitely hear the presence of old Jane on this thing, but the rager beats and abrasive noises on this record are ... read more
