Miranda Cosgrove - Sparks Fly
71

Surprisingly catchy and fun pop album with the most generic lyrics you'll ever hear in your life. I was impressed with the vocal performances throughout, they sound great. While most songs are catchy, the non-catchy parts are kinda tough to get through in combination with the lame lyrics and sometimes cheesy instrumentation. There are also a few complete misses here, mostly because I feel like a few of the songs try a little too hard to mirror Kesha. Regardless, I'm surprised I liked ... read more

Seether - Karma and Effect

Pretty good rock album. While the lyrics and sounds don't vary much throughout this project, there are catchy melodies that will stick in your head long after listening. Seether are the masters of delivering solid, catchy rock albums that will keep you entertained and provide some bangers, whilst also usually not blowing you away overall

Armor For Sleep - There Is No Memory
67

Not the most exciting album by them, and honestly kind of a disappointment. My expectations for this album weren't super high after listening to the singles, but it's a shame because I did like The Rain Museum. This album just feels like that album again but not nearly as good. It just lacks identity, in the songs, vibes, and art direction. This album feels like it just doesn't have much to say. There are good sounds all throughout, and it is good, just disappointing. I ... read more

Circa Survive - Violent Waves
67

Circa Survive is one of my favorite bands of all time, but this is easily my least favorite album of theirs. It just brings a completely different vibe and energy from their past work. The songs are usually kind of sluggish and slow, the vocals never really shine like they usually do, there are so many key changes that leave certain sections sounding a little ugly, and the atmosphere is more claustrophobic. I like the features a lot, but they don't really get to shine on the songs ... read more

Dance Gavin Dance - Afterburner

Pretty good album, but does not stick out at all in DGD's catalogue. This is the first one that feels kind of samey and arguably phoned in. There are good songs, forgettable songs, but all of them don't have the same energy the songs of previous albums do. They tend to be a bit more poppy, and there's even a hip-hop instrumental section on the last song. So while this is definitely probably my least favorite album of their discography, it is still good. Just goes to show how good ... read more

AJR - Living Room

Genuinely one of the worst music projects I've ever heard. It's over-production, forced-uniqueness, and generic pop slop all wrapped in one. It's like if 2018 era Imagine Dragons wanted to make something "different". The second half of this album is a little easier to bear than the first half, as there are less random vocal effects and samples attacking you. Speaking of, why are there so many sounds just always harassing the ear? They don't add anything to the ... read more

TK from 凛として時雨 [TK from Ling tosite sigure] - Fantastic Magic
70

Each song is very good and is just candy to the ear, but every song is so similar, the singing can start to hurt after a while, and the music is so complex/chaotic all throughout to the point where the album as a whole is an exhausting listen. The music is still very good though and well put together

Pink Guy - PINK GUY
73

It very funny. Some memes can drag a bit or are just overly edgy, but this thing made me laugh a lot. There are also some legitimately great beats, flows, and singing sprinkled about the whole project

After - After EP
74

Such a cool project with stellar production and vocals. This duo perfectly recreates the sound of early 2000's mellow rock you'd find on myspace pages, music you'd hear in frutiger aero compilations, and music that could appear in an early 2000's vampire drama movie. This thing, while it doesn't do anything crazy musically, just has an amazing vibe

Rise Against - Ricochet
54

One of the biggest disappointments for me in the last few years. I have so many issues with this album.
Firstly, the lyrics are the ultimate letdown. With the current state of the world, you'd expect Rise Against of all bands to provide bold and thoughtful lyrics, but the lyrics found on this project play it safer than any album. If you hadn't known Rise Against before listening to this album, you'd never expect them to have ever been a punk-rock band.
Secondly, the melodies are ... read more

Lilac Stranger - Dreaming in Lilac

Very cool and unique math rock album that has a videogame-y sound to it (the artwork is also amazing). The interludes are awesome and the songs are pretty good, but they can tend to blend together and not stand out much on their own

Three Days Grace - Three Days Grace
93

One of, if not the most impressive debut albums I know of. Every tune on this album just pleases my ears so much and the worst song is still like a 7/10. In terms of sound, this album doesn't do anything off the wall or unheard of. It's straight rock, but it perfects the typical rock formula in almost every way to me. It's catchy, has cool riffs, an amazing vocal performance, good lyrics, and a grungy vibe. It's all a guy would ever want out of butt rock and I have little to ... read more

Joel Nielsen - Black Mesa

One of the best game soundtracks ever, this thing is full of banging tunes that fit the fast-paced action of Black Mesa perfectly. This album enhances the game so much, Joel Nielsen killed it with this

My Darkest Days - My Darkest Days
70

Kind of has the vibe of a cigarette bud on a concrete sidewalk outside of a small town strip club, but this is legitimately a pretty good butt-rock album. While there are a lot of tracks that blend in and don't do much for me, there are also tracks that are pretty catchy and have some heart put into them. The best tracks to me are the sappy relationship tracks, as there are some clever lyrics and pretty melodies. The worst tracks to me are the sex ones that have kinda lame lyrics and just ... read more

This project has insane production, is very fun, and is very unique. Not many songs stick out that much because of their lengths and similar sounds, but this offers such a unique listening experience. It's a good EP, but some sounds hurt the ears, you cannot understand a single lyric, and the volume can be inconsistent all-throughout

empty parking lot - silly songs for a silly girl
73

I actually really like this little midwest emo album. The melodies are pretty, it's tastefully-produced, the lyrics are very raw, and it doesn't overstay its welcome (it's very short, but that works for an album like this). It really just feels like a big vent post and this thing just radiates 2021 vibes. My only complaint is that the samples aren't my favorite. Oftentimes, they feel a little out of place and don't add much to the songs. Overall, if you want a good, ... read more

C418 - Minecraft - Volume Alpha
85

One of the best game soundtracks ever and has become a huge part of the game's identity as a whole over the years. The songs here are downright gorgeous and C418 had no reason to go this hard for the silly pixel block game

Woe, Is Me - Number(s)
68

This is a unique, and good album, but it's not quite for me. It is basically just one 28-minute-long song. My main issue is that there are not enough breaks from the straight jammin'. The jammin' sounds good, but the individual songs have no structure or identity and it can get exhausting to listen to. So yeah, while this album definitely sticks out as an album because it's novel, the actual music doesn't really stick out at all. Most of the melodies do sound nice ... read more

Les Discrets - Septembre et ses dernières pensées

Absolutely gorgeous album. I've never heard an album that sounds more like its artwork in my life

The Messenger - Lets Get Dangerous!
78

This album impressed the hell out of me. I went into it expecting a pretty meh little pop punk record to keep my brain entertained while drawing, but it's actually such a solid album with impressive vocals, catchy hooks, and great production. It's a shame this album kind of slipped under the radar, because this is great music
