Going into this project nervous, unsure how to feel about Migos after their controversial release of Culture II. I overall found myself disliking anything the Migos wanted to do past the point of their last album, so I am going into this album skeptical. I heard the first minute of the first song though, and I am actually excited as it sounds really good so far.
Love that the album just starts immediately. The beat is fantastic, and Quavo sounds amazing. Consider me interested. I love the lyrics as well, This is a great start. All 3 of them sounds like they have matured since Culture II. Didn’t like the outro, how it faded.
Having Our Way (feat. Drake)
So wasting time is discouraged now. Drake is up now. He sounds like Drake. Drake brings some decent bars, and he has a strong confidence and flow here that is bleeding through. It is clear he spent a long time working on this track, even if he does clearly steal the entire song. Migos sound super underwhelming after Drake. There is a clear disconnect in tone from Drake to Migos. This was likely an unreleased Drake song at some point that Migos threw themselves on. Takeoff kills it tho, and the Drake transition to it was really cool.
I already really like this beat. The distant horn sounds badass. Chorus is not anything special, but Quavo has a kickass verse that is drenched in confidence. This is some genuinely motivational rap. This this hitting. Great production, and quality verses… but wtf is this outro… this is horrible…. Wait actually wtf is this. This is like the worst kanye impression ever. -2 points
8/10… to a 6/10
Type Shit (feat. Cardi B)
This song is not nearly as engaging as the other ones. The beat is not as good. It is an ethereal tremelo thingy synth that is so meaningless. The bass and drum pattern is boring. Cardi is a nice change of pace. Cardi brings a great level of confidence that refreshes the track.Still is has a vibe, but likely a skip.TAGS AT THE END NOT THE FRONT?
Malibu (feat. Polo G)
Interesting beat and flow. This is a nice track already. I like it, it bumps. Polo G… This sounds so strange. The mix is so bad… The track momentum just came to a terrible halt… and I really like Polo. G. Was he recording in a cardboard box, and then mixed by someone with no rhythm? His offbeat flow is not working… ouch. Song actually ruined. Migos killed it, but really weak Polo G placement. It picks back up afterwards. Overall not a great track.
This cheesy ass beat lol. City girls type shit. OOF… This is bad. Dude… This is quavo just moan singing with awful reverb. The production is not okay. This song is unbearable SKIIIIIIIIP
Heavy dirty soul KEKW. not a lot of confidence from Quavo here. Not really doing much for me. This is a skip.
Ok then lol. Sure. Nice clickbait. This song is clearly underwritten. Underwhelming bars, and really generic adlibs on Quavo. Takeoff is making the beat standout. He is doing well here. Using the word Retarded in 2021 tho. Not a memorable song in the slightest
Picasso (feat. Future)
Future pls be good here. Better vibe than the last track. Still this is a boring beat, and a mediocre performance from the Migos. Yeah I am disappointed
K I am bored. Apparently the last leg of this album is good. This song is just nothing special. As a consumer, I am getting tired of the monotony. The bars are as boring as a Gunna song. This song doesn’t feel like anyone is trying. SKIIIIIIP
What You See (feat. Justin Bieber)
Uh oh. Ok this is a good first verse… oh ok then. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE
Oh no Quavo. These bars are so fucking bad. The beat is good though, and the Migos do okay here. I literally got Offset and Takeoff mixed up here. Funny enough that song was more interesting than the last block of songs. I appreciate them trying to make a song like this, even if it is kinda weird and it doesn't work.
I enjoy the horns in these beats. Ok this is a good club song. Great beat. Catchy and bumpy flow. Great. OOOOOOH ok this slaps. HUBADUBAUDUABDUAUDBUAUBDUBDUBDUBAUBAUBAUBAUBA. Good song. I like it, it goes hard.
Antisocial (feat. Juice WRLD)
Hmmm. Ok Juice is mixed way too quiet. I like the more personal bars about the usage of lean in Takeoff’s life. This was actually a great verse. This is a very personal song. I really appreciate this, even if the beat is mixed horribly. A really sweet track. Good job Migos.
Ok then another filler track thrown in here. Not feeling it. Beat is somewhat good, but nothing of value here.
Ok this is horrible. Horrible mix, terrible beat. Awful bars, repulsive references. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Handle My Business
Time For Me
This sounds pretty alright. I like the vibe of this track. It has some decent rap singing. It works. Pissing line was awful.
Light It Up (feat. Pop Smoke)
Ok finally something that isn’t filler? I respect the drill sound here for Pop. Bars are not amazing here. The free for profit background vox sounds cheap as hell. Pop sounds nice here. He does great. Followed by a boring ass verse. Overall a good song. I enjoyed it.
I Need It (feat. NBA Youngboy)
My first time hearing this. This is a cool back and forth track, but this is not a great song. Decent beat and flows, but the lyrics are really boring. They arent even catchy. Just all over the place and boring.
Overall this is a big improvement from Culture 2, but the tracklist still felt overloaded with filler. If you take the best songs from here, you have a solid line of work. I enjoyed quite a few tracks, and I would come back to a few songs as well. It is a step in the right direction, and I will take it food what it is
